Almost half of the department has been sent out to help with the numerous wildland fires these last 6 weeks. On Wednesday evening, we welcomed our most recent crew home! Thank you to all that made signs and gave them a memorable homecoming! #SBFD #sanbrunofire #welcomehome #striketeam #community
Yesterday morning, the San Francisco Fire Department lost one of their own. We send our deepest sympathies to the men and women of SFFD and to the family of Firefighter Cortez.
San Bruno E51 has been deployed to various wildfires for a total of 6 1/2 weeks this fire season. Today they return home from the Glass fire in Sonoma and Napa counties after battling the fires there for over 10 days during a continuous 4 1/2 week deployment starting at the Creek Fire in Fresno. If you would like to show your support to the returning crew, please come out to El Camino Real between San Bruno Ave and Jenevein in the next hour today to wave hello as they return home to the station!
RED FLAG WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM PDT SATURDAY FOR BREEZY NORTHERLY WINDS AND CRITICALLY DRY CONDITIONS... * WIND...North winds through Thursday morning will push across Napa county and impact the Glass Fire and the hills above Calistoga, potentially pushing the fire towards Angwin. Increasing northwest winds arrive Thursday afternoon during the peak of the burn period along with very low humidity. Northwest... winds increase Thursday night into Friday morning with gusts 25 to 30 mph with little or no humidity recovery. Breezy northerly winds continue through the Friday burn period with continued hot temperatures. * HUMIDITY...15 to 25 percent but locally 8-12 percent with little or no nighttime recovery in the hills. * HIGHEST THREAT...Active portions of the Glass Fire or those areas with unsecured or open fire line. * IMPACTS...Fire will spread rapidly due to the combination of hot temperatures, very dry fuels, breezy northerly winds and low humidity. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

San Bruno Fire Department’s Engine 51 is supporting wildfire suppression efforts statewide, as a part of the California Mutual Aid system. E-51 is part of a five engine team designated as a Strike Team. E-51 as well as all the Departments have been on numerous fires for a combined 5 weeks throughout the state of California. E-51 has been to the CZU Lightning Complex in San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties, Creek Fire in Fresno and Madera Counties, Castle Fire in Tulare County and now the Glass fire in Napa County. These unprecedented fires represent the new normal for California and represent one of the most sustained and lengthy mutual aid deployments in San Bruno Fire Departments history.
E51 is starting their 7th day at the Creek Fire. They have been busy with structure protection, constructing fire break lines and burn operations. #creekfire #sbfd #nightops #sanbrunofire #sanbruno #striketeam #2275a
Today we stop and reflect on a day that changed this country and the world forever. 19 years ago, 2,977 people walked out of their front doors that morning and never returned home. On this day, 343 firemen gave the ultimate sacrifice. Lives were changed in an instant and uncertainty and fear blanketed an entire nation. We remember today because those individuals deserve to be remembered for an eternity. In the face of unimaginable acts of evil, first responders selflessly gave their lives so that others may live. Overcome with grief and pain, the families of those lost continued on. They are heroes too. We all must remember that life can change in an instant. And we promise, that we will NEVER forget. #343 #neverforget
