To address The True Cost of Water, we are hosting a conversation with journalist and professor Peter Annin, discussing his book The Great Lakes Water Wars, led by Program Director of the Great Lakes Now Sandra Svoboda. Examining water’s true cost, Annin and Svoboda discuss the aging water systems in the Great Lakes region and across the United States. Annin also provides foundational knowledge about various concepts like diversion and pollution, encouraging audience members to gain a larger understand about the challenges ahead. As the nation prepares to pour billions of federal dollars into rescuing water systems, join this program to learn more.
Jennifer Weiner reviews the ups and downs of her book covers.
Join us tomorrow, May 10, at 12pm for our May Art Talk Tuesday -- Adornment: Displays of Wealth and Status. Gold, silver, gems, pearls. Crowns, earrings, pendants, bracelets. For thousands of years people of all countries and cultures have ornamented themselves with costly, intricate, and often symbolic, jewelry to attest to their wealth, status, and importance. Cultures from the ancient Persians and Koreans to 18th century ethnic Indonesians to modern Chinese and South Asians have loved beautifully crafted adornment. Speaker Mary Mead will share examples of eye-catching and meaningful wearable art from the Asian Art Museum’s fabulous collections. Interested in attending?
