‘Jimi Hendrix, Smoke (C-3)’, 1967 - original photograph by Gered Mankowitz. Gered photographed Jimi twice in ‘67 at his London studio. Before the shoot he sat down with Jimi and the Hendrix Experience to eat sweet meats and smoke a joint. This was Gered’s right of passage with his subjects and, of course, Jimi wasn't opposed! Images from these sessions became iconic portraitures of Jimi and were used on the cover of his ‘93 compilation album, ‘The Ultimate Experience’. ... Gered loved photographing Jimi because of how naturally funny and well-humored he was. Gered maintains that in those sessions he never needed to use props to make the photographs interesting. Jimi just had to turn up, be well lit, and a great photograph would be created! ‘Marilyn Monroe in White I, The Seven Year Itch’ - original photograph by Bruno Bernard. Images of Marilyn in a billowing white dress will forever remain in the world’s psyche. On September 15th, 1954 Bernard of Hollywood captured one of the most iconic celebrity photographs of all time. Marilyn shot this scene for The Seven Year Itch fourteen times while thousands of Manhattan passerbyers stared and cheered. ... The scene that ended up actually being used was shot on the Fox lot afterwards, partially due to the sound from the street crowd being too loud! Bruno Bernard first worked with Norma Jean in 1946 and they shared a father-daughter type bond. He passed several of his photographs from his early sessions with her on to agents at 20th Century Fox, which led to her first screen test and motion picture contract. ‘Miles Davis at Isle of Wight Festival, 1970’ - original photograph by Jim Marshall. Jim was starstruck by Miles Davis. There was something about him - possibly his genius talent, possibly his abrasive demeanour with a temper that rivalled Jim’s. ... Either way, Jim wanted intimate access to Miles. He approach him backstage one day hoping to form a connection. Hey, Miles, why do you play a green trumpet? Motherfucker, why are you asking me about the color of my trumpet? I don’t ask you why you are using a black camera! Despite this painful interaction, Jim won Miles over some time later by gifting him a portrait of John Coltrane. They were cool after that. We have this and several other super rare signed photographs by Jim Marshall in the gallery now. Check them out online, or stop by anytime! #happybirthdayJim #jimmarshall #jimmarshallphotography #musicmonday #milesdavis #milesdavisquotes #1970s #legendsneverdie #photoforsale #isleofwight #isleofwightfestival #isleofwightshots #jazzphotography

‘Queen II Album Cover’, 1974 - original photograph by Mick Rock. For Queen’s second album cover, photographer Mick Rock was inspired by a classic Hollywood photo of Marlene Dietrich from Shanghai Express in which she stands under a spotlight with arms crossed and fingers spread. The resulting photo became one of the most iconic images of Queen ever take...n. We have one here now! Own it today, just in time for Christmas! ‘Mick Jagger Onstage in Tophat, Copenhagen, 1970’ - rare original signed photograph by Bent Rej (1940-2016). Bent photographed the Stones regularly in the early days of ‘65 - ‘66. He became close with Brian Jones, but decided to get out of the Rock & Roll world by the end of ‘66 as more harmful drugs entered the scene and, in his words, the fun was over. Bent photographed the Stones for old times’ sake, and for the last time, in 1970 in Europe. He made a few observations ...about how the Stones’ live performances had changed over 5 years: 1) The band had started dressing up to perform. 2) Their show had become more of an amazing spectacle but with less music. 3) There were no more riots. This beautiful photograph of Mick Jagger in a satin suit and velvet top hat from the Let it Bleed era, is the #1/12 print and is one of the ONLY signed Bent Rej photographs that remain available for purchase anywhere in the world! ‘Debbie Harry, Blondie, 1977’ - original photography by Lynn Goldsmith. This shoot inspired photographer Lynn Goldsmith to always try to have a professional makeup artist at hand when photographing. Before Debbie was a rockstar in Blondie she was a cosmetologist, and that day Lynn watched Debbie transform her face using the power of makeup. Lynn realized that no matter how beautiful an artist is, they can look even better with makeup. We love Debbie’s style and fierce confi...dence! She and Blondie are truly icons of the 1970s. This signed, limited edition photograph is framed and in the gallery now! It would make the perfect gift for any Blondie fan - and you can have it under the tree this weekend! ‘The Grateful Dead Flipping the Bird’, 1967 - original photograph by Jim Marshall. The Grateful Dead striking a familiar pose outside of the legendary Fillmore West in San Francisco. The ‘bird’ became the quintessential gesture made by many subjects Jim photographed. It represented, among other things, their mutual feelings about so-called authority. At its core the finger is a rejection of cultural mores, a symbol of counterculture itself, so it is incredibly well-suited in... the vibrant 60’s. This photograph is framed and ready to be taken home today! The perfect gift for any Deadhead this Christmas! ‘Interlude’ - original photograph by Paul Saltzman. Whilst on their retreat in Rishikesh, India the Beatles spent their days meditating, listening to Maharishi’s lectures and playing and devising music. In the calm of the Indian countryside, the Beatles found their groove again after the devastating passing of their manager, Brian Epstein. When asked how many songs they wrote on this trip, the Beatles’ answer was forty-eight. Mia Farrow attended the retreat with her sister, P...rudence. Prudence became very involved in meditation, worryingly so. According to Paul Saltzman, she began to spend all day and night isolated in her bungalow. All her friends tried to get her out her room but nothing worked. John and Paul decided to write her a ditty to coax her out which they played outside her window, and it worked! Prudence emerged smiling. This ditty became ‘Dear Prudence’ on the Beatles ‘The White Album’. Almost the entire album was written in Rishikesh. Saltzman bore witness to songs in their making through jam sessions for songs such as Ob-La-Di. #thebeatles #beatles #johnlennon #paulmccartney #ringostarr #georgeharrison #beatlesforever #beatlesmania #beatlesfan #beatlesashram #beatlesashramrishikesh #ashramlife #beatleswhitealbum #beatlestribute #beatlesstory #beatlesfacts #thebeatlesfan #rishikesh #rishikeshdiaries #maharishimaheshyogi #brianepstein #martinguitar #paulsaltzman #photographyforsale #SFAE Paul Saltzman

‘When I’m Sixty-Four’ - original photograph by Paul Saltzman. Of all the Beatles on the retreat to Maharishi’s ashram in Rishikesh, Ringo was the least involved in the meditative practices and least excited to be there. He often complained about the bland food (spices were thought to interfere with deep meditation) and about how it was all vegetarian. In fact, Ringo commissioned the Beatles’ personal assistant, Mal Evans, to buy him fresh eggs every morning which he would eat... with British baked beans. Ringo brought two suitcases to India - one for clothes, the other filled with baked beans! Paul Saltzman speculates that Ringo may have been less excited about the retreat because he was already at ease with who he was. According to Paul, he was the most serene and grounded member of the band. People think Ringo was the least of the Beatles. Actually, he was the heart and soul of the group. - Lennon #thebeatles #beatles #johnlennon #paulmccartney #ringostarr #georgeharrison #beatlesforever #beatlesmania #beatlesfan #beatlesashram #beatlesashramrishikesh #ashramlife #beatleswhitealbum #beatlestribute #beatlesstory #beatlesfacts #thebeatlesfan #rishikesh #rishikeshdiaries #maharishimaheshyogi #heinzbakedbeans #paulsaltzman #photographyforsale #SFAE Paul SaltzmanRingo Starr
