Congratulations to Jeremy Snyder, Our Noble Grand elect for 2020 and now Poet Laureate of Vallejo! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 19, 2019 VALLEJO COMMUNITY ARTS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF NEW POET LAUREATE... VALLEJO, CA Renay Conlin, Executive Director of the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation announced today the appointment of Jeremy Snyder as the new Poet Laureate for Vallejo. A committee comprised of literary experts selected Mr. Snyder through a competitive application and interview process. Jeremy Snyder was born in Vallejo, California. A multifaceted artist, Jeremy has been an active member of the artistic community since 2006. Jeremy is the host for one of the longest running poetry shows in the Bay Area, Poetry by the Bay, founded by Kyrah Ayers in 2008. As host, he has focused on fostering a love of writing and performing in others. His continued dedication to the local poetry community as a writer, performer, and host has made him a champion for the written word, preparing him for the honor of becoming Vallejo's third poet laureate. "I very much look forward to advancing the love of writing in our community. I hope to bring awareness to these written and oral traditions, and to demonstrate the healing properties of creative writing." His two-year term begins now. He will work closely with the Vallejo Public Library and will conduct workshops throughout the Vallejo area and will have poetry readings at the Empress Lounge of his own work and those of area writers. The Poet Laureate program celebrates Vallejo’s rich culture and diversity through the work of a poet who creates excitement about the written and spoken work as well as outreach activities, special programs, teach and their individual works. The role of the Poet Laureate is to stimulate poetic impulse, foster appreciation of poetry in all its forms and serve Vallejo residents and visitors with expressions of culture through words. ***** FOR MORE INFORMATION: Annette Taylor, Senior Community Development Analyst, [email protected], (707) 649-3510
