Greetings SFAS members, The recent spread of coronavirus has resulted in the implementation of stay at home orders and the closure of many retail businesses. However, what you may not know is that pet stores have been deemed essential businesses and many aquarium/local fish shops remain open during this time. The SFAS Board has reached out to local fish shops in our area and confirmed that the following are are still open to the public, although some may only be offering mod...ified/limited services and that can change altogether on a day-to-day basis: Ocean Aquarium 120 Cedar St, San Francisco 415-771-3206 6th Ave Aquarium 425 Clement St, San Francisco 415-668-7190 Lucky Ocean Aquarium 109 Balboa St, San Francisco 415-668-3676 Ocean Flower Aquarium 356 Hyde St, San Francisco (415) 929-9286 Hung Ming 2501 Geneva Ave, Daly City 415-586-6891 Natural Life Aquarium 131 Southwood, SSF 650-589-3291 Ultimate Aquarium 2625 S El Camino Real, San Mateo 650-212-3474 Clear Water Aquarium 1080 Saratoga Ave. Ste 11, San Jose 408-217-8069 Albany Aquarium 818 San Pablo, Albany 510-525-1166 Bay Bridge Aquarium 1010 22nd Ave, Oakland 877-809-4067 Aquatic Collection 1212 W. Winton Ave, Hayward 510-259-6280 Petco Multiple locations 415-255-7156 Pet Club Multiple Locations 650-358-0347 Please call stores directly to confirm store hours and what services are still being offered. Although the SFAS Board encourages members to support local fish shops whenever possible, we suggest limiting fish shop visits to emergency situations and to restock essential items at this time. If you do decide to visit a local fish shop, we recommend taking the following precautions to limit the possible exposure and spread of coronavirus for yourself, shop employees and members of the public: *Follow all public health orders, such as shelter-in-place requirements and the ban on public gatherings. *Limit the number of people accompanying you during your fish shop visit. Although a visit to the local shop is often a great way to spend some time with friends and family, this can greatly increase the risk of spreading coronavirus. *Wear a cloth mask or face covering when out in public. *Maintain a safe social distance of 6 feet between yourself and others when out in public. *Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before and after your visit. While the Board would like to encourage all members to support local fish shops right now, it is even more critical that we show our support once the shelter-in-place orders end and we return to some semblance of business as usual. Many of these shops have a long history of supporting our club with donations and we hope that our members will show our appreciation by supporting them during and after these difficult times. Hoping everyone is staying safe and healthy, SFAS Board

Dear Friends and fellow Fish Fanciers: The San Francisco Aquarium Society will not meet this April, and probably not in coming months, until further notice. Indeed, our church meeting place, St Cyprian's Episcopal Church, is closed to the public. These limitations follow from current guidelines for citizens of all the Bay Area counties, that help keep everyone safe. Fundamentally we are all to stay at home until further notice, except for essential travel (shopping for needed... supplies, getting medical care, safe exercise, and the like) until the danger from the COVID-19 virus epidemic is significantly reduced. Here are the full guidelines for sheltering at home as given by the San Francisco city government: https://sf.gov/stay-home-except-essential-needs and this is the website from SF City Hall, for to the comprehensive response to COVID-19: https://sf.gov/topics/coronavirus-covid-19 SFAS will get back to our regular program of meetings, speakers, and auctions (including Mega-Auctions!) as soon as it is safe to do so. I miss the meetings too, but keeping our friends, families and neighbors safe comes first. As always, if you want to speak to me about this or anything concerning SFAS, please contact me at: [email protected] Thank you, Kate Skinner President, San Francisco Aquarium Society

Hey are you going to the CAOAC convention in Toronto May 1st-3rd? Probably the best lineup of Rainbowfish speakers ever in North America. Six speakers, eight ...talks. Special rare rainbowfish auction Saturday night after banquet then huge auction on Sunday. Yes Americans we have a plan to bring across rainbowfish back across the border. They’ll be some shipping expenses involved and a small fee to help pay for the inspection, more to come on that later. Speakers: Hans Evers (Germany) former editor of Amazonas! His trips collecting rainbowfish in Papua, Wim Heemskerk (Netherlands): world expert on breeding Pseudomugil. Besides his Pseudomugil talk he’ll talk on our last two trips to Papua, 2019 trip being the most successful ever, with four new species to the hobby being introduced, Gary Lange (USA): thirty years of chasing rainbowfish; Tim McCaskie Toronto Zoo (Canada): Madagascar rainbowfish, Leo O’Reilly (Australia): Rhadinocentrus breeding expert. Besides his talk on Rhads he will talk about finding and collecting threadfin rainbowfish in far north Queensland, John Seyjagat: His dinner talk will be on Australia, Rainbows and More. First talk is on Friday at 7 pm, you don’t want to miss Hans! Go here for more details on the speakers. https://www.dras.ca/caoac2020speakers Remember you need a passport to go to Canada. If you don’t have one or need to update yours it can take 6-8 weeks so get on it, you really don’t want to miss this opportunity. Hope to see your there https://www.dras.ca/caoac2020 for more info.
