Mercy House invites you to help a client in need today. One of our San Bernardino clients recently had her baby boy pass away- 6 months into her pregnancy. Unfo...rtunately, our client cannot afford to pay for the cremation of her baby, and we would like to come alongside of her to pay for these funds. The cost is $400 for the cremation, and we will need to make sure to provide the money to the mortuary by Friday. If you would like to donate to this cause, please donate online at https://www.commitchange.com/nonprofits/3622/donate and designate or dedicate your donation to San Bernardino Bereavement Fund. Thank you so much for your support and prayers. See more

San Bernardino Access Center Success Story Samantha first became homeless after giving birth to her son, Jonathan. Prior to this time, Samantha had been taking on more responsibility than she could bare-offering to raise her young nephew after her sister had turned to drugs. While Samantha was pregnant, bad went to worse when the father of her son left her-leaving her with no resources. Growing up in San Bernardino, Samantha was raised by her mother and grandmother who had b...oth passed away. With no support system, and no money in savings, Samantha contacted local agencies to receive support to stay at a motel until she could find a more permanent solution. Thankfully, Samantha found Mercy House and received the resources she needed to have a home again. Mercy House was able to provide Samantha with the security deposit and rental assistance she needed to move into her own apartment! Mercy House even collaborated with a local restaurant to make sure that Samantha, Jonathan, and her nephew would be able to have what they needed to celebrate Christmas. Thanks to the hard work of the staff at the San Bernardino Access Center, along with our generous supporters, Samantha now has a place to call home, and the security she needed to raise her family.

Our sincere prayers and deepest sorrow goes out to the victims and their families of yesterday’s shooting in San Bernardino. As the shooting was just a few miles away from our San Bernardino Access Center, this incident was too close to home. Please keep our staff, clients, and the residents of San Bernardino in your prayers, along with the victims and their families of this horrible tragedy.

Mercy House Success Story: Detrice, Assisi House Resident When Detrice and her two daughters lost their home, it was their faith, hope, and perseverance that kept them moving forward, believing that they would find an answer to the tragic circumstances they faced. Little did they know that Mercy House would be a vital part of their answer. While working a full time job, Detrice noticed that she was experiencing several health issues. After serious symptoms and several tests... later, the doctors diagnosed Detrice with leukemia. They also discovered that she had a recent major stroke; leaving her unable to work. Desperate and determined Detrice packed her belongings with her two daughters and tried to make arrangements to stay with family and friends until they could get back on her feet. Despite her attempts, no one was able to help Detrice and her family, forcing them to stay at a motel. After driving her daughters to school each morning Detrice spent her time searching for housing while her daughters spent their time focused on maintaining their grades at school. One of her daughters, Akayla, was a senior in high school and wanted to pursue her dream of attending college. Days turned to weeks and Detrice found herself unable to continue paying for a motel, leaving her no choice but to sleep in her car with her two daughters. While living in their car, Akayla maintained a 4.2 GPA, stayed involved in extra-curricular activities and kept her dream of college close to her heart. After weeks of sleeping in their car, Detrice and her family were approached by the car company to repossess their car as they were unable to make payments. In that state of utter hopefulness, Detrice received the call that would change their life: a vacancy was available for her family at our Assisi House Transitional Shelter. The Mercy House Staff welcomed Detrice and her two daughters with open arms providing them with the resources they would need to become self-sufficient once again. Akayla successfully graduated from high school and was accepted into Chico State University on a full scholarship. Generous Mercy House supporters sent in donations to help pay for her graduation fees, college entrance fees and funds to purchase a new laptop and school supplies to help Akayla begin her higher education this Fall. Overwhelmed by both the staff and donors of Mercy House, Detrice expresses her sincere gratitude: Thank you Mercy House, because without you, my children and I would not be successful today... We love you, our new family.
