It's time to enjoy Lagunitas Creek from afar. Last week's beautiful rainfall slightly increased the creek depth and flow, signaling to the adult coho salmon to return from the ocean to the place where they were born to lay and fertilize their eggs. We observed a couple salmon spawning from the Leo T. Cronin viewing area. Did you know that redds (salmon nests) are about 30 feet long?! When you visit, bring binoculars and patience--the salmon are good at blending into the cree...k bottom (for protection). Also, remember to talk quietly, stay away from the creek, keep pets leashed, and do what you can to ensure space, quiet, and respect for these remarkable creatures.
