ALERT: A new scam has been discovered leveraging caller ID spoofing in an attempt to illegally solicit funds from our members. The caller insists that money is ...owed to CalPERS in order to receive pension payments. The caller ID may be spoofed to display CalPERS as the caller ID. This fake company claims to be California Retirement Department. The caller insists that you pay funds via prepaid re-loadable cards in order to receive your pension or death benefits. Please be advised that CalPERS will never cold call you to ask that you pay funds over the phone and will never ask you to pay funds via pre-paid credit or reloadable cards. If you receive these types of calls, we encourage you to simply hang up and report this to your local law enforcement and Federal Trade Commission.
