What does the Japanese traditions of Obon and the Mexican traditions of Dìa De Los Muertos have in common? Traditions of Remembrance! The Asian Cultural Experience, Salinas ( ACE) celebrates Asian American traditions and appreciates the immigrant cultures that made Chinatown their home. Donate to MCGIVES! Support our Big Idea to have ACE gallery space in Moon Gate Plaza montereycountygives.com/ace

Hello ACE friends and members. This Facebook page will shut down, shortly. It will be replaced by another ACE Facebook page, with the same name, where we will continue posting articles and photos. Sorry for the slight disruption. To find us, search on Facebook for "Asian Cultural Experience - ACE," and please "Like" our page and follow; we don't want to lose you! Note that we will also have a new contact email address on our new page, which you can find at the bottom of our Mission Statement (in "About"). @Henry T. ACE received a memo this morning: "Congratulations! Your organization has been accepted into this year's Monterey County Gives! program." YAY! We'll be raising funds for the buildout of our new office/gallery space at Moon Gate Plaza. Thanks, Monterey County Gives! See a photo of the space in an article written earlier this spring: https://acesalinas.wordpress.com//06/25/ace-moving-forward/
It's fall semester at CSUMB, and students are contacting ACE to work with us on various service learning projects, mostly online -- so different from last year! But we look forward to working with them. Here's a little photo essay (one of two) from Fall semester 2018; ACE welcomed CSUMB Service Learning students into the Republic Cafe for a tour. Currently (2020/2021) we are raising money to purchase the building and turn it into a cultural center and museum. Interested in helping us out? Since the Buddhist Temple of Salinas is unable to hold the Obon Festival this year, their youth group, YBA, created an Odori video, which honors those who have passed on, and also to "continue to connect and celebrate Obon, the gathering of joy." They have put their own youthful stamp on it, dancing to modern music! https://www.youtube.com/watch Larry Hirahara Henry T. Gong Cathy Chavez Miller
