Thank you to the Salvadoran-American Leadership and Educational Fund for partnering with the City of LA in adding services for these kids and young adults. Not having a home is hard , especially if you don’t know the language or culture - thanks to this and other ta...rgeted programs , we are giving these young people a chance today, tomorrow and always. Together, we are saving lives. And I’m especially proud that this grew out of our collective work in Tijuana. Adelante!

The Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund, SALEF, applauds the efforts on behlf of Governor Newsom to visit El Salvador to understand the root-causes of migration and to understand the Salvadoran community in California. Salvadorans are one of the largest Latino groups in California; Los Angeles is the hub of the Salvadoran diaspora -- and the city with more Salvadorans outside of the country's capital San Salvador. This visit comes at a pivotal time when ...the anti-immigrant rhetoric continues to affect our community and also when the Trump Administration cuts off humanitarian aid to the Northern Triangle countries-- however, the administration will still continue to send millions of dollars of military aid which have been used historically to repress communities and increase forced migration from the region. Immigration cannot solely be seen on a domestic level but should be examined through all critical lenses, including the understanding of the US historical role of intervention in our homelands. We support the governor's efforts and hope to continue having critical conversations to ensure the growth and prosperity of our community but most importantly not replicating the policies of the 1980's towards Central America and asylum seekers. #CAenES Cagov #SALEF #diaspora #elsalvador #rootsofmigration
