Smoking reduces your body's ability to combat and heal gum infection and treatments may not work as well as they do for non-smokers. This means smokers tend to have more severe gum disease and are more likely to suffer tooth loss as a result.

Over brushing can lead to sensitive teeth and receding gums. Vigorous brushing can wear down the enamel on the teeth as well as damage and push back the gums, exposing the sensitive root area. Brush softly to avoid tooth abrasion.

Drink soft drinks only in moderation, if at all. Use a straw so your teeth are less exposed to the sugar and acid in the drink. For better teeth you should reduce the daily amount of sweetened drinks.
