Happy Father’s Day to all of our fathers! Father’s Day is the opportunity to show our dads how much we truly appreciate them. What do you love and appreciate mo...st about your dad or fatherly figure? Tag your dad and share with us in the comments below so we can pray for them! Father’s Day Prayer: Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience; support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to you for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our rock and defender. Happy Mother’s Day!
Final Preparations for the Sacrifice - Peter J. Scaer Peter and John, after too much jockeying for position, are sent to prepare the Passover. The room, the ...table, the lamb and wine. But they have no idea. Not that our Lord hasn't prepared them. They knew that he was in fact the Lamb. They knew that he was the Bread of Presence, the true Manna. They were told that his flesh was meat indeed, and his blood drink indeed. They themselves had practiced for this moment in the Feeding of the 5000 and 4000. Soon, they would feed Christ's flock. They knew of a wine that foreshadowed a wedding feast that has no end. They knew of wheat and harvest, of vines and vineyards, of cups they must drink. Oh, and they knew their Old Testament. Of food offered up to God and eaten by the priests, of Passover Lamb eaten by all in the family, of cleansing blood. This is Psalm 23's overflowing cup, the manner in which he walks with us in the valley of the shadow of death. Tonight, it all comes into focus. On the one hand we have bread that sustains, signaling Christ's care for us. We have wine that give joy, but also cleanses the heart. But make no mistake. This is no mere bread and wine. It's is Christ's body given for the life of the world, it is his blood, his very blood, to be shed upon the cross. In this meal our chalice is filled from the very body of Christ, opened by a soldier's piercing. Let the scoffers scoff, but this is sacred. Let all mortal flesh keep silent, and in fear and trembling stand. Oh, we need the body. We are right to say the flesh profits nothing, but now the Word became flesh and has dwelled among us, and that flesh is now the medicine of immortality, the source of communion. Even Baptism unites us into the body of Christ, now his own body enters ours. And who would drink a cup of blood? Ah, but it is the blood, the very blood of Christ. Time to return to Leviticus, for the life of the flesh is in the blood. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. Not the blood of goats, but the blood of Christ, now offered in a chalice. Drink it in, and drink your guilt. Drink it in, and drink cleansing, forgiveness, and a new life. Drink from the cup that comes as wine, but gives us the very blood of salvation. Tonight, our Lord eagerly longs to celebrate the Passover, but even more, to transform that Passover, no, to fulfill it that it might become our priestly entry into the Holy of Holies, that with our hearts marked by his very blood, and with the food of his flesh we might be forever with Him, and He with us. No, this is no game of pretend, no mere remembrance or simply a renewal of vows. Tellingly, Luke's story of the supper actually begins with a cup. That cup is the last one of Passover, but now that all comes to completion. Apart from Christ, Passover is no Passover at all. But Moses spoke with our Lord about the Exodus, that is freeing of his true Israel from the land of sin and death. It all comes to the crucifixion, the lamb, the blood, the sacrifice, and the meal. Body and blood. Accept no substitutes. Body given, blood shed, now to eat and drink. Now to Christ, the true temple, the Holy of Holies. Now to Christ, the victim and the priest. King of kings, yet born of Mary, As of old on earth He stood, Lord of lords, in human vesture, In the body and the blood; He will give to all the faithful His own self for heav'nly food.
Mk 3:13-19 Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles, that they might... be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons: He appointed the Twelve: Simon, whom he named Peter; James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him. October 4 is the Memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, friar and preacher! 1. St. Francis came from a wealthy family but he gave up luxurious living, and live a ...life of poverty and total dependence on the good God, after hearing the Lord’s voice who commanded him to rebuild the Christian church. No one else in history was as dedicated as him in imitating the life and carrying out the work of Christ in Christ’s way. He was the first to receive the stigmata, the wounds of Christ in his hands and feet. 2. He established the Franciscan Order of friars known as street preachers with no possessions, and the women's Order of the Poor Ladies. He composed the Rule of life for the Franciscans. 3. He preached to people about the life of Jesus Christ. With his evangelical zeal, consecration to poverty, charity, and his incredible charisma, he drew thousands of followers. He practised true equality by showing utmost respect and love to every person regardless of their status in life. He helped and cared for the sick, the poor, and even lepers. He had great veneration for the Eucharist and respect for the priests who carried out the sacraments. 4. He was the first to set up the nativity scene. 5. He recognized creation as manifestation of the beauty of God. He loves nature and can communicate with animals. He persuaded a wolf by making the sign of the cross to stop attacking the people and their livestock. 6. St. Francis’ response to God’s grace and calling in his life was remarkable. He is a shining example of carrying out the great commission equipped with boldness and grace by the Holy Spirit. Through his obedience, sacrifice, and humility, his love for God and service for others, he has left a legacy that serves as inspiration to all. Beloved Saint Francis, obtain for us and for our families, relatives, and friends the blessings, providence, healing, mercy, and protection of God now and always. Saint Francis of Assisi, pray for us and the whole world. Amen!

Saint Gabriel is a messenger of the Good News; I ask him to help me clearly hear Your voice and to teach me the truth. Saint Raphael is the healing angel; I ask him to take my need for healing and that of everyone I know, lift it up to Your throne of grace and deliver back to us the gift of recovery.
