#feedinghungryhearts The Holy Spirit decided it couldn't wait to receive Ray Samoa and Nic Arnzen of St Marks Episcopal Church in Altadena into The Episcopal Ch...urch. So the Revs. Carri Grindon and Betsy Hooper-Rosebrook, rector and associate rector, moved St. Mark's a mile or two up Lake Ave. to the Samoa-Arnzen residence for a Zoom service, where I was privileged to preside and preach this afternoon. About eight of us were socially distanced in person. The rest of the congregation tuned in. An endocrinologist at City of Hope, Ray met the Rt. Rev. J Jon Bruno when the bishop was battling leukemia. Inspired by Jon's hearty welcome and heart for social justice, Ray told Nic the good news, and they've been St. Mark's members ever since. A four-year vestry veteran, Ray takes over as senior warden on Jan. 31. We even had press coverage. Deb Halberstadt, cofounder of Deb Squared Photo with her partner, Debbi Swanson, was there on behalf of "The Altadena Neighbor." Deb said that while she'd covered a lot of pandemic stories, this was her first confirmation. She said she took her first news photo at 15, during an emergency in the Chicago subway.
