Today during his sermon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cayucos, CA, Father Charles was talking about how today is ALL SAINTS DAY and that the EMTs (that's us), among others, got a shout out for keeping the parishsioners and church staff safe from the coronavirus and called us "Saints of God". It was nice to recognized for the work that we have been doing for the church since June 2020, when they started holding their masses again. There has been interest around both Santa Barbara and SLO Counties for our business to present another Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class. I am trying to gauge the interest in us presenting an EMR class in near future, probably after the first of the year. What is Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)? ... I like to describe as an EMT-Lite class; you learn a lot of the same skills as a EMT (vital signs, signs and symptoms, field treatment for injuries and illnesses, just not on the scale as an EMT would. Also, the EMR class is designed for those individuals that want to learn a higher level of medical knowledge, but have no desire to go into the heathcare field (EMT, Paramedic, Nurse, etc.). The EMR class is a minimum of 48 hours in length and I would normally run the class for 6 consecutive Saturdays. "Emergency medical responders are people who are specially trained to provide out-of-hospital care in medical emergencies. Emergency medical responders have a very limited scope of practice and have the least amount of comprehensive education, clinical experience or clinical skills of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. Emergency medical responders typically assist in rural regions providing basic life support where pre-hospital health professionals are not available due to limited resources or infrastructure". Through our EMR class you will be certified in the following class and topics: *EMR *BLS CPR *Stop The Bleed *Epipherine Auto - Injector When you are done with the EMR class, you will have the knowledge and skills to handle most medical emergencies at a Frist Responder level. A few weeks ago, I posted about FAKE or KNOCKOFF tourniquets and that as a consumer, you should research and be aware of what you are buying, especially when it comes to a piece of life-saving equipment. There has been an ad popping up on Facebook from a Bushcraft company stating that you could get what appears to be a C.A.T. Yesterday we conducted an CPR /AED for Adults only class for Santa Maria Terrace, one of our clients. Santa Maria Terrace is an Assisted Living Facility. We trained 9 members of their staff in CPR / AED for Adults only. ... This morning I finished assembling the Oxygen (02) bags for The Spaceship Company in Mojave. Even though they have been trained as EMRs since January of this year, they where still having trouble obtaining 02 equipment from a vendor in Bakersfield. This is where we stepped in and in a matter of a couple of days, we had ordered everything they needed to be able to administer 02 to patients at the facility. ...
