"Go-kits" are self-contained and portable kits that contain essential emergency supplies. They are often placed in a backpack or a tub that is stored in a readily accessible location and can easily be carried out of the classroom or school in case of an emergency. The school safety plan should reference go-kits and identify who has the responsibility for inventory, inspection, and replenishing.

It is important to have one overall district emergency operations plan in place for all schools, but individual school emergency response plans will need to be tailored to the uniqueness of the schools. Attention needs to be given to each and every school.

Each school system is unique and different from other governmental agencies in that it has very specific goals and objectives; therefore, each school district and school must have disaster and emergency plans in place that are reflective of that specific school environment.
