Help us celebrate #WorldLemurDay! These incredible animals are native to the island of Madagascar, and because of deforestation, almost all species are endangered today. What's your favorite thing about these primates? Did you know that lemurs play a role in maintaining forest diversity through the movement of seeds? Being a seed disperser means they aid in the process of moving seeds and pollen from one area of the forest to another! #BlackAndWhiteRuffledLemur... #SacramentoZoo See more

Today is #WorldSnowLeopardDay, so here’s a pic of everyone’s favorite mother/son duo! Take a few minutes today to learn all about this incredible cat! Today marks the beginning of #OrangutanCaringWeek. At the Sac Zoo, Orangutan Caring Week is a perfect opportunity to raise awareness about the plight of this Critically Endangered species and the urgent dangers facing their rainforest homes! The single greatest threat facing orangutans today is the rapidly expanding unsustainable palm oil trade. However, remaining wild populations are also seriously threatened by logging (legal as well as illegal), widespread fires, illega...l hunting and trade, and habitat fragmentation by road construction. Please spread the word and help us to increase awareness of the critical plight of this magnificent species. #WeCareAboutOrangutans #OrangutanSSP #OrangutanCaringWeek #OrangutanAwarenessWeek #CriticallyEndangered #SacramentoZoo

Since his birth in 2018, #CoconutTheSnowLeopard has been a fan favorite at the Sac Zoo. Today, thanks to exceptional care from our veterinary and zookeeper staff along with great support from his patient mother, Misha, and a team of UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine specialists Coconut is a strong adult snow leopard. With that being said, the time has come for Coconut to go to a new home, another AZA-accredited facility with the Snow Leopard SSP program. We invite you to visit the Sac Zoo to say farewell to Coconut. He and his mother will be on exhibit from approximately 10am to 5pm through Saturday, November 14th. Thank you for following along with Coconut and the story of his care at the #SacramentoZoo. We will all miss him, but certainly wish him well on his move.
