Merry Christmas This year has certainly been a trying one, both for the HEMA community and the world. Hopefully today bring a little peace and joy (and maybe a new sword) to those of you who celebrate it. For those of you who don't celebrate it we hope you get new swords as well, new swords for everyone as at go into 2021! I'm going to reuse the art created by Geoffrey Harrington as I feel it speaks to me this year.
Sadly at this time we're going to cancel today's class. While there is the possibility the rain may let up when we would normally be having class the ground is expected to be quite muddy. This has lead the instructors to unfortunately decide to cancel. It's not a choice I enjoy making at all but one I must make none the less. Hopefully the weather will improve next Sunday and we will be able to have class. Stay safe and see you next week.
Just a reminder that we do not have class today because of the Thanksgiving Weekend. We will have class next week as normal.

The air is nice and clean, let's play with swords in the park! See you there.
The Glass Fire in Napa is not only threatening the home of two of our members but is also making it necessary to cancel class today due to the poor air quality. I take no joy in skipping a class as we have already missed too many this year. Stay safe, keep your fingers crossed for the forecasted rain, and hopefully we'll see you next week.
We will be having class today. McKinley Park in the usual spot on 34th St. The air might be a bit poor so use your best judgement and determine if it's safe for you.
Current Air Quality forecast for tomorrow has is just making it into the Orange range. Unless the morning sees a drastic change for the wide we will have class. Anyone with breathing problems is encouraged to make the safe choice for themselves. Class will be light work for the most part and we will be finishing up a bit earlier than usual for our main class but all classes will begin at their usual time.
We don't want to call the wrath of 2020 upon us, but it's looking hourly probable that we will be able to have class tomorrow. See you there!
It should come as no surprise that we are once again forced to cancel class. Stay safe.
Good morning or well not so good, Unfortunately we are forced to once again cancel class. With a forecast air quality of 150+ ppm and a high temperature expected to be in excess of 110 we can't in good conscience ask anyone to attend class under those conditions. I vehemently hope this is the last time I will be making this decision for this season. Stay safe and we will hopefully see you next week.
Good morning, While we hoped to have class this morning, especially after being forced to skip last week, it would appear that 2020 once again has other plans for us. The Air Quality Index for today has once again taken a turn for the worst. As a result we are going to cancel class for today. This is not a decision that we are particularly happy in making but it is our responsibility to make sure that you are always safe when training with us. Hopefully if the conditions allo...w we will be able to have class next week. Thank you for your understanding.
It has been brought to our attention that during the protests last night in Sacramento that an individual was taken into custody for brandishing what appears to be a sharp sword (we have no confirmation that it was sharp but it matches a style of sword popular for cutting competition). To the best of our knowledge this individual is in no way connected to our club nor have they received training from us. While we support the ongoing protests against police brutality and believe strongly in the need for reform we do not condone the instigation of violence by people seeking to exercise their first amendment rights and condemn the use of violence against them.
Based upon current and forecasted air quality levels we are going to cancel tomorrow's class. While it is feasible to work around heat with light practice and plenty of water, breathing is not so easily managed. We plan to have class class as normal the following Sunday.
The temperature this Sunday is predicted to be around 108. While we still plan to have class please do not feel obligated to attend if you are uncomfortable with the heat. It will be a mostly low energy class with lots of breaks.
Classes return today. We will be in McKinley Park in Sacramento. See the attached map for location in the park.
Thinking about getting a face mask to wear under your fencing mask when training? We reviewed two of the versions that are for sale and targeted at fencers. https://youtu.be/JpdSIu-jqG0
