On June 24, 2021, Senior Deputy Probation Officer Denise Harper received an accolade from a prior client thanking her for all of her support. In an email, the client stated, Court went well, I paid my restitution in full, still clean and sober, going to my classes and seeing my Probation Officer. I just want to say thank you for all of your help and understanding. Without your help, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you once again. You’re the best! The Sacramento County Probation Department would like to thank Officer Harper for her commitment to supporting positive change and making a positive impact in her client’s life.

Often we highlight on-duty officers doing great work within the community, but sometimes we forget that individual accomplishments and amazing efforts are still happening once the workday is over. Our Beyond the Badge segment highlights officers who have done extraordinary things outside the scope of duty and it showcases the talented staff we have within our department. Deputy Probation Officer Brad Schindler of the Juvenile Field Division recently completed a 20K swim from... Santa Cruz Harbor to Capitola Beach and back in efforts to qualify for the Monterey Bay Solo Marathon Swim scheduled for August 30, 2021. With an escort boat guiding him, Brad navigated alongside boats, dolphins, and jelly fish to successfully complete the roundtrip swim in 6 hours and 56 minutes. Brad is looking forward to attempting the Monterey Bay Solo Marathon Swim which consists of a 25 mile swim from Seabright Beach to San Carlos Beach. He is hopeful to join an elite group of swimmers and become the 8th person in history to successfully complete the journey. Congratulations Brad on qualifying and good luck on your next swim! #BeyondTheBadge #Probation #SwimOn #montereybay See more

The Commercially Sexually Exploited Children or CSEC unit is a specialized Field Unit providing support, case management, supervision and assistance to youth ages 12-21 under Juvenile Court Jurisdiction. We work with youth who may also be involved with the Department of Children, Family and Adult Services (DCFAS). These youth may be at risk or have been sexually exploited so we utilize and are trained in various methods, such as the harm reduction approach, in order to engage... them with a more positive outcome. Through a trauma informed approach, we utilize cross-system collaboration to meet the varying needs of each individual youth. We are part of the Sacramento Together Human Trafficking Collaborative Committee which is headed by the District Attorney partnering with various law enforcement agencies and community based organizations within the Sacramento region. We work collaboratively with DCFAS, the Courts, Children’s Law Center, community based organizations and their families to strengthen our relationship with the youth in order to successfully complete Probation. Our collective goal is to integrate them back into society with the necessary tools to lead a positive life. Together, we are working to make a difference and #STOPHumanTrafficking. #HumanTraffickingAwarenessMonth See more

The Probation Department's Pretrial unit was established in 2019 with County and State funding. Probation conducts assessments on individuals booked into custody and monitors individuals released to Pretrial by the Superior Court at no cost to the client. Pretrial data shows the number of individuals released on pretrial has increased and the number of fresh arrests has remained relatively low. #SupportingPositiveChange
