Voting resources, lessons for grades 6-12 from Amazon Studios Amazon Studios has released Grow a Voter, an initiative that includes lesson plans, student action toolkits, and after-school programs for students and teachers grades 6-12 to encourage civic engagement and voting at age 18. Lessons include voting rights and tactics in voter suppression in American history and voting rights as a defining civil rights issue. The lessons can be incorporated into government, civics and debate courses. It includes clips from the documentary All In: The Fight For Democracy featuring voting activist Stacey Abrams. When schools can reopen depends on the COVID-19 rate in the county. That’s creating a big disparity among schools.
What is clear is that while most (97%) California households do have broadband at speeds high enough for some video calls, it’s often still not enough when multiple kids and adults are all using the network.
California is requiring districts to track students’ daily participation in distance learning and to outline strategies for reaching students. But, as yet, no statewide data are available that shows how engaged students are this school year.
Disproportionate numbers of California’s homeless students were Latino and Black: 70% and 9%, respectively. Latinos make up 55% of the overall student enrollment, and Black students 5.3%
