Congrats to Judy Lin Young and her clients for deftly positioning the winning bid in a super competitive part of town! Yep, we closed another deal in red hot Highland Park, this time for a wonderful hillside Mid-Century Modern gem with views that glide along the Arroyo Seco to the lit skyscrapers of Downtown Los Angeles. Highland Park is one of the hottest neighborhoods in Los Angeles, especially for homes around $1M. Properties routinely sell for much higher than asking price and often have multiple offers (a dozen bidders is not uncommon). One way to get around this lack of inventory problem is to buy a newly built home, and our clients did just that. Most people hear "Sunset Strip" and think of the nightclubs, boutiques, trendy restaurants, and paparazzi seen along Sunset Boulevard. Well, Sunset Strip is also the name of the neighborhood just above all that commotion. Homes nestled into the hillsides here have some of the best views of the L.A. Basin. Nighttime is particularly gorgeous when the city below becomes a starfield of twinkling lights. This Spanish charmer sits right above the Mondrian, Andaz, and Grafton hotels.... The Comedy Store is just around the corner. Funny thing though, the home is secluded and very quiet. It is a retreat from the undulating metropolis below. In the 1920s and 30s in Los Angeles, the storybook style (a.k.a. fairytale) of architecture came on the scene. Storybook houses have an old world look with a twist of Hollywood animation (a la Snow White) or book illustration (a la Hansel and Gretel). In fact, Harry Oliver was an art director for films and a principal architect for many storybook homes in LA. Here's on from Beachwood Canyon - a good place to hunt for them as they come on the market from time to time.... https://www.rubyhome.com/hollywood-hills/beachwood-canyon/

My favorite part of this Mediterranean gem in Outpost Estates is the three redwood trees planted in the front yard (this is a pic of the back yard but you can see the redwoods in the upper left corner). Judging by the height, those trees were most likely planted at the time Outpost Estates was subdivided and developed (1927).
