Teen Opioid Abuse is on the rise. Among high school teens #SBCoFD and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has seen a rise in the use of counterfeit (...fake/bogus) prescription pills. We have also seen a big increase in the circulation of the M-30 pill (Oxycodone). This pill is laced with deadly fentanyl, causing overdose deaths. These pills are also called percs and oxys. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that doctors can prescribe to patients to help with severe pain. Drug dealers are mixing Fentanyl with other drugs like Oxy and Xanax, and you can’t tell the pill has this deadly drug. Fentanyl can be made into powder form, pills, capsules, solutions, or put on blotter papers. What does a Fentanyl Overdose look like? The person will show these symptoms: Breathe slowly, or stop breathing Be drowsy or unresponsive Be snoring and you’re unable to wake them Have small or pinpoint pupils If you see these signs immediately call 911 and say the person is suspected of having a fentanyl overdose. The longer you wait to call the less likely the person will survive.

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the County of San Bernardino, increase call volume may also cause a strain on the 911 system. Local public safety official...s are urging the public to utilize the 911 system for actual emergencies. If you call 911, you may be asked additional questions to help screen for potential COVID-19 indicators. Indicators include measured body temperature of 100.4 or higher, fever, chills, difficulty breathing, persistent cough, and other respiratory problems. If you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms, contact your physician or health care provider's nurse health hotline. Big news! The Apple, El Dorado and Snow fires are now 100% contained! This is a great step, but there is more work to do. The fires now in what is called uncont...rolled status. This means smoldering continues within the fires’ perimeters. Those in Forest Falls last week saw this at work as smoke continued to appear within the burn scar, even after several inches of snow fell! That shows just how resilient fire can be. With that said, in addition to high temperatures, vegetation continuing to dry out and no rain/snow in the forecast, fire-related restrictions remain in effect. For a list, check our website here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/sbnf/learning/safety-ethics/ (Photo: El Dorado Fire on Sept. 19)

The Running Springs Fire Department is deeply saddened of the passing of Engineer Paramedic Cory Norton, of the San Bernardino County Fire Department. Cory fought a long and hard battle with cancer. Cory’s smile, attitude and strength are just a few of the unforgettable traits that will live on in our hearts and stay with us, until we all meet again. We have it from here, Brother. God bless you and your family. #nortonstrong #local935 #sbcofd #thinredline
