A few more springtime blossoms.
Not that impressive, I know, just three small magnolia blossoms. But this magnolia has been with us for six years and occupied three different spaces. This is the first sign she has ever given us that she is happy!
The drought last summer was hard on the garden. By fall, many of the plants looked weary, leaves on the maples shriveled and fell early, most without changing color at all. But the winter rains have washed away the dust and brought abundant new life!

In February, as daylight lengthens and the soil begins to warm, small blossoms appear in the undergrowth. Striped fetid adder's-tongue, pink redwood sorrel, trillium, native orchids with blossoms no bigger than a thumbnail
In January, the garden is cool, dark, and damp. Sunlight moves through the tops of trees but rarely strikes the ground.
