For anyone that has to release horses/set them free as a last resort from the fires, please read: 1) When letting horses out of stalls or pa...stures, CLOSE ALL of the stall doors/gates once they are set free. When horses are panicked, they will usually go back to their stall or pasture, which will likely trap them in the fire. 2) Write your name/phone number on your horses’s hooves in sharpie OR with spray paint/paint on their body. You can also tie something in their mane/tail, but there’s a chance it could get snagged on something or burned. 3) Leave all halters off they will burn into the sides of their face and can get caught on fencing/objects. My thoughts are with all that are impacted by these devastating fires. Please be smart and stay safe

Ok. I know a lot of people probably have outdoor water troughs and likely battle algae growth if it’s exposed to sunlight. A lot of visitors ask me how I keep t...he big water troughs algae free. They’re completely exposed to sun and hold 250 Gallons of water. Well it’s an old farm trick. Cool mint mouthwash! Yup. !! But has to be Cool Mint! They don’t mind the flavor. I use 1 capful per 200 gallons. These tanks are topped up daily and drained and fill every 5 days. Absolutely no algae growth and alpacas don’t mind it. At first they might wonder what’s that Smell. I’ve had no ill effects from using it, just don’t over do it! See more
