Thank you all for supporting our drive-thru Shrimp Boil Fundraiser! Our October 24 event was a success. Bidding on our auction items is still available until 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 (https://one.bidpal.net/cajunshrimpboil/browse/all). Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to support organizations and efforts that are working to beat COVID in our local San Leandro community.

Rotary Club of San Leandro 2020-2021 grants now OPEN. Did you know that the Rotary Club of San Leandro has a community grants program? Well, we do. Every year we award grants to non profit 501c3 organizations that provide valuable programs and services to San Leandro residents. Grants range in size but generally do not exceed 5K. Our grant program for 2020-2021 just opened. Grant guidelines and the application are now on our website. Go to http://sanleandrorotary.org/ and l...ook on the left side under Community Grant Documents. Grants are due no later than November 20, so act quickly. Please read the guidelines and provide thorough answers to all questions. Please share this info far and wide. We are looking forward to providing funding support to wonderful organizations helping our San Leandro community thrive.

Noodles Pho Me came through once again by donating hot meals to low income older adults in San Leandro. It’s such a pleasure to partner with Tong and Cindy to bring delicious meals to those in need in our city. Thank you for your service and generosity!

Last night's Rotarians & Family trivia night was a HOOT! In sudden death, Dianne & Jesse came in 1st, Morgan & Carlos came in second, and by a hair, Alan & Kristina came in 3rd. First place received a $50 gift card to Sons of Liberty and second place was a $25 gift card to Pinx. We'll be doing it again next month (October 7th 630-745) so send me category ideas! SPECIAL shoutout to Mike Mehan who tuned in from Arnold. We'll be celebrating him (and others) next Wednesday for a big anniversary! (During our regular Zoom noon meeting). It took a 1987 Supreme Court decision in the US followed by a 1989 Rotary International decree to allow women into Rotary clubs across the globe. And it has taken until 2020 to see a woman nominated to the post of Rotary International President. The Rotary Club of San Leandro is proud to be a club of diverse ethnicities, races, and genders. Our club has had no fewer than six women serve as president and 35% of our current membership are women! Rotary's motto is "Service Above Self." Whether we serve as a group, or on our own, you can be sure that San Leandro Rotarian's are walking the talk. On March 17, 2020, shelter-in-place orders were given to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Many people lost their jobs and began to experience food insecurity, some for the first time. Rotarian Morgan Mack Rose had just started a new job. Feeling grateful to be employed, and wanting to do something to help those who weren't, s...he began volunteering every Friday morning at the San Lorenzo Food Pantry. Rotarians Dianne Dorn and Jesse Bowdle started to help too. Other San Leandro Rotarians regularly volunteer at Davis St. Family Resource, Eden Senior Housing, and even at club sponsored projects in Guatemala and Honduras.
