All month Rotary celebrated Economic Development month. Our guests included Vince Daly (High St. Depot project), Chris Enegren, Enegren’s Brewery (his vision for The Alley), Karen Vaughn, Economic Development Director, city of Moorpark (General Plan Update). We also received a Proclamation from the city in recognition of World Polio Day. Go Kelly!
We are so proud to have inducted Mitzi Fierro into our Rotary Club this month. She’s an amazing woman and we look forward to having her join us in serving our community. Welcome Mitzi!
Early this morning our Rotary Club held its first joint meeting via Zoom with the Rotary Club of Calcutta, India. We discussed all of our partnerships in matching grants and global grants and how we can help Past District Governor Deepa Willingham expand space in her vocational school for girls in India. We all shared how we are all surviving COVID-19. We really are One World, advancing goodwill and peace around the globe!
Today was Tierra Rejada road clean up day. We joined up with the Simi Clubs and picked up volumes of trash. We improved the environment while enjoying the camaraderie of Rotary. Rewarding Day!!!
Last night Rotarians joined together with physical distancing, for a social at The Alley. We also had a surprise visitor, Ventura County Supervisor and Board Chair, Kelly Long. It was a trifecta, with beverages from Enegren Brewery and California Republic, and food from Fire & Vice. We will surely be back soon.
The Rotary Club of Moorpark held our Annual Golf Tournament today at the Moorpark Country Club. We want to thank all of our sponsors and golfers for making our event a great success. A special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor-Carefree Boat Club, Oxnard. All proceeds help local charities. What a great day!
At today’s Rotary Meeting we discussed our upcoming Annual Golf Tournament on 9/21 and our Fitness Polio fundraiser. Our speaker was the Golf Pro, Roger Murray from the Moorpark Country Club. Roger developed the COVID-19 protocols that enabled all golf courses reopen.
On August 21st Carolyn Schrimpf received the People of Action Award from our Rotary District Governor Deborah Linden via Zoom. Congratulations Carolyn, we are so proud of you!
The Rotary Club of Moorpark supporting our students by donating school supplies for the kids of the Moorpark Food Pantry Plus. Hundreds of bags filled with pencils, pens, highlighters, pencil sharpeners, erasers, paper and binders, and so much more. We physically distanced but socially enjoyed making a difference.
Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Moorpark for all the District Awards that were received this past weekend at the first District Awards Virtual Presentation. Brad Lawson, President...thank you for such a productive year.
The Rotary Club of Moorpark wants to thank our outgoing 2019-2020 President Brad Lawson for his leadership and guidance this year and congratulate incoming President Kelly Martin Best for 2020-2021. We celebrate this change in leadership by demoting our President in a humorous and fair for all concerned format.
The attached letter was our Rotary virtual program on Zoom today presented by Rotarian and Mayor Janice Parvin. It is nice to see the many great hometown influences that organizations have on individuals whether it be Boy Scouts or Rotary!
As Rotarians, we see many great presentations at meetings including virtual ones we are now doing. The attached virtual presentation made via Zoom in our District 5240's Rotary eClub of One World is long but worth watching. A doctor and psychologist from Italy is sharing lessons learned from their COVID19 experience which are very enlightening including unknown facts about masks, gloves, and shoes. This is definitely worth a watch. https://youtu.be/ysa1ZfP0C4w
The Rotary Club of Moorpark, as part of its Vocational Avenue of Service, hosted a Moorpark Chamber of Commerce mixer held on March 10, 2020. Our club has been a long term member of the Chamber and Rotarian Dale Parvin is its President. Thanks to Rotarian Bruce Thomas' efforts we held the event at the Moorpark Career Education Center and learned about what they do to educate high school youth after school in skilled trade positions of high demand. It is always great to network with other local business owners and to make them aware of how great it is to be a Rotarian to charitably help others.
