We received this invitation to fast on Sunday, September 27, 2020, from the North America West Area Presidency. Dear Brothers and Sisters, We extend our love to you and want you to know we are praying for your safety and well-being. This is a time of significant challenge and economic struggle for many as efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 continue and devastating wildfires burn across Washington, Oregon and California. We assure each of you that our Heavenly Father and... His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, are mindful of us and our individual needs. We can turn to Them for peace and comfort. Sunday, September 27, 2020, is a fast Sunday. It is also the weekend just prior to October General Conference. As an Area Presidency, we invite you to join us in a special day of fasting and mighty prayer. The purpose of this fast is five-fold: 1. To pray for increased understanding and personal revelation in preparation for general conference and the prophetic guidance and messages we will receive. 2. To pray that those suffering the physical, emotional, and economic impact of COVID-19 will be blessed according to their needs. 3. To pray that the hearts of people everywhere will be softened and turned toward the Lord in humility and that faith in Jesus Christ will increase on the earth. 4. To pray for spiritual strength to overcome fear and anxiety, for inspiration to protect ourselves and our families, and for the awareness and ability to minister to those in need. 5. To ask the Lord to bless and inspire our leaders as they address the complex challenges facing our nation and seek to protect the health and well-being of all people. We invite you to consider a generous fast offering and based on your personal circumstances, a donation to the Humanitarian Fund. We encourage each of you to seek opportunities to reach out to those around you who need assistance and support. Sincerely, Kevin W. Pearson Scott D. Whiting Mark A. My dear young adult friends, like you, I have felt the effects of our world’s difficult circumstances during the last few months. In these difficult timesand a...lwaysthe answer is our Savior, Jesus Christ. His atoning sacrifice enables us to access His power, which can give us strength to endure. I also know that the timing of President Russell M. Nelson’s announcement of The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World and the events of our world are not a coincidence. If you have not yet taken the opportunity to study this proclamation, I encourage you to study it. Ponder your questions about the Savior and the Restoration of His gospel. Now, I have two invitations for you. First, I invite you to leave a question you may have about the proclamation or the Restoration in the comments below. Sister Rasband and I will answer some of your questions in the upcoming Face to Face event for young adults on September 13, 2020. Second, I invite you to think about your life and ponder, how does the restored gospel of Jesus Christ help me overcome the challenges of today’s world? Read through the proclamation as you think about your answer, and then post your answer on social media using #SacredGrove. I love you, and I can’t wait to be with you in September for our Face to Face event.

The other day a family friend asked my wife, Wendy, what it has been like to have the sacrament in our home. Wendy wrote the following in response: Knowing tha...t our dining table will become the sacrament table on Sunday, both of us take special care on Saturday to make sure our home is clean and tidy. My husband finds such JOY as he folds the laundry and vacuums. And I am happy to find joy in his joy! The highlight for me is hearing my husband bless the sacrament. I can feel how much he loves the Lord and how grateful he is for the Savior’s Atonement by how tenderly he pronounces each word. I can feel how sincere he is about the privilege he and I havein that sacred moment right in our hometo renew our baptismal covenants and to make a new covenant with God about how we will live the next week. I am moved to tears every time. Wendy and I have loved these special times together, but we have also missed partaking of the sacrament with the Saints. Just days ago, the First Presidency announced plans to authorize the resumption of our Sabbath meetings in a careful, phased manner. Sacrament meetings will slowly begin to be held, based on local restrictions. Some nations have escaped the pandemic so far. Others are experiencing a continuing increase. For them, a home-based Sabbath will be needed much longer. And I am especially concerned for those who desire to partake of the sacrament but do not have a worthy priesthood bearer in their home. They should let their bishop know that they would like to have his delegated representatives come to their home to administer the sacrament. If they wish to provide their own bread and water, based on their specific needs, they may do so. Partaking of the sacrament is a sacred and sanctifying privilege. Doing so makes it possible for us to draw more fully upon the Lord’s power. We wish for all who desire to partake of the sacrament to have that opportunity. I love you, my dear brothers and sisters, and I assure you that the Lord is watching over each of you.
