Roots Community Church 07.07.2021

This upcoming Sunday we are really looking forward to having Matthew McCartney preach on the Supremacy of Christ in Missions from Matthew 28:16-20 here at Roots Community Church. We also are delighted that immediately after service they will have an opportunity to share more about themselves and what the Lord has been doing in and through them with a time of Q & A afterwards. For the past three and a half years, the McCartney’s have been missionaries in Central Asia and it’...s been a joy for our church to join in partnership with these co-laborers in the gospel. Matthew and Ashley met while they were serving the Lord in Russia and shortly afterwards were married and moved to the States where Matthew went to seminary. It was in the States that they joined Immanuel Baptist Church where they have been sent out from. Their vision to be sent out by the church, as the church, in order to see churches planted in Central Asia has and is becoming a reality for the aim of Christ’s glory alone by every people group. We have the privilege and honor of hosting Matthew and his family this Sunday and are grateful for the opportunity to put a face to a name and learn more about their story and how Christ is Supreme in the spread of the gospel to the nations. This Sunday we are blessed to receive the preached word from Timothy Brindle, who will preach Christ from Psalm 40 and how Jesus has uniquely fulfilled all that God has required to perfectly do his will. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Timothy moved to Philadelphia to pursue a career in hip-hop. In 2001, his love for hip-hop was redeemed, and as he was discipled by Shai Linne, dedicated his art to declaring the truth of Christ and joined the Lamp Mode Recordings family. He is ...currently serving as assistant pastor at Olive Street Presbyterian Church in the Philadelphia area. And while also serving full time as the Senior Advancement Officer at Westminster Theological Seminary, he is pursuing his PhD in Old Testament at the same seminary. Best of all, he and his wife Floriana are blessed with 8 children (all aged 15 and under!). More than anything his desire is to make known the glory of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation. Eager for tomorrow as we gather around the word of Christ! Gathering info below: Gathering Location: 3350 Avenue of the Arts, Costa Mesa 92626 Parking: This Sunday, complementary parking will be just a 2 minutes walk from the gathering location. This Sunday, our guest preacher is Eric Turbedsky, and he will preach Christ and his supremacy in the local church through Ephesians chapter 1. Originally from Philadelphia, he and his wife moved out to California and were involved in a church plant through Sovereign Grace Ministries, first in San Diego, but have since moved up to Orange County for another church plant in Orange. He has now been pastor at that church plant, Sovereign Grace Church of Orange, for 12 years. He ...sees the mission of Christ through the local church as paramount; as he says, We believe God wants to save many more Californians and one of the ways He will do this is through the faithful presence of Christians living in communities like we do in Old Towne Orange. To that end, they are involved in a second church plant in Downtown Santa Ana. Please come and hear the word of God this Sunday as we behold Christ in his manifold glory through Ephesians 1. He is worthy! And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. - Ephesians 1:22-23

This upcoming Sunday, we continue our series on the Supremacy of Christ and we have the delight of seeing how Christ is supreme in evangelism in 1 Peter 2:9-10. We are also extremely grateful for the anticipation of hearing from the word of God through our brother and partner in the gospel, Rick Eisenberg. Rick is no stranger since he is a former member here at Roots Community Church. It’s always a blessing when he comes to visit and when Rick steps into the pulpit to heral...d the word of God. Rick lives in the city of Parker with his wife Hollie, and two daughters Eden and Shiloh and works as a chaplain and director of a youth baseball facility. His passion and calling to serve the church has brought the Eisenberg’s to The Embassy Church in Downtown Denver where Rick is a prospective elder and is currently serving as Church Planting Resident with the aim of planting a church in the near future, Lord willing. Rick also is currently in the middle of earning a Doctor of Ministry from Denver Seminary, so as you can imagine things are really busy for this brother. However, what has always stood out throughout Rick’s life, busy or not, is his zeal and passion for the gospel to be preached and for Christ to be treasured among those who have yet to know Christ. We are eager to open 1 Peter 2:9-10 this upcoming Sunday and hear from this text and through this brother how Christ indeed is supreme in the declaration of the greatest news in the world: that Christ is merciful in saving a people for his own possession. Tomorrow we have the joy of welcoming a guest and dear brother, Brett McCracken, to preach and teach at Roots Community Church. He’s local, raising his family in Santa Ana, and is now part of a church plant in Santa Ana, serving as one of two elders. His educational background is diverse as he is a graduate of Wheaton and earned his M.A. at UCLA in Cinema and Media Studies. Brett is currently senior editor and communications director at The Gospel Coalition. He is very well ...read, having written books and articles that speak truthfully, critically, and perceptively about the church and our culture, because more than anything he loves the church, the Lord Jesus and his gospel - the only hope for us and our world. It is with this gift and passion, he is able to articulate well the need for Christ and how we can exalt in him in this day and age and we are eager to hear the Word preached from this brother. This upcoming Sunday is particularly special because we have the joy of welcoming a guest to come preach who is a dear friend and fellow partner in the gospel. This Sunday, Andrés Vera and his family will be worshipping with us as we continue to fix our gaze on Christ and his supremacy. Andrés and his wife Courtney are originally from Toronto, Canada but moved out to Louisville, Kentucky to pursue theological degrees from Southern Seminary. The Lord has wired Andrés with th...e desire to equip church leaders, missionaries, and pastors which is why this brother is pursuing his Phd in Biblical Theology and currently serves as Assistant Professor of New Testament at Cal Baptist University. His aim and heart to serve the church through teaching and the proclamation of the gospel is so encouraging and we are grateful for his friendship and partnership in the gospel. Andrés is eager to preach this Sunday as he prepares to survey the supremacy of Christ throughout the New Testament. Let's keep this brother in prayer as he prepares to serve the body at Roots this Sunday. Eager to continue to marvel at our incredible savior this upcoming Sunday. WE'RE ENDING 2020 ON MT. EVEREST The book of Romans has often been referred to as the Mt. Everest of the New Testament. If that's true then the eighth chapter is the peak of the mountain. Romans 8 gives the reader a panoramic view of all that God in Christ has accomplished for the believer. In light of this we feel this is a fitting chapter to close out this calendar year! So for our final Sunday in 2020 we're reading through Romans 8. All of it! There will be three separate... readings each followed two songs of praise. After the final reading I will provide a brief exhortation based on what we've read followed by the Lord's Supper. Hope you'll join us! 10:15a [729 Farad St., Costa Mesa CA 92627] "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who diedmore than that, who was raisedwho is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us." Romans 8:31-34

On behalf of our community and those we are privileged to serve outside of our church, thank you! May the Lord be glorified and his people edified as we gather in person again this Sunday 7/26! We’ll continue our series through the Sermon on the Mount with Matthew 5:21-48. We encourage you to read ahead to prepare your heart and mind for the preached word. Here are some reminders as you prepare for church this Sunday: 1. We’re meeting outside at (3095 Redhill Ave., Costa Mesa CA 92626). We have plenty of seating and plenty of shade. Service is at 10:15a... 2. Total service length is around 1 hour and 15 min. 3. Our children will be joining us. Kids activity packets will be available again! 4. Once we are seated and adequately distanced, we will be singing 5. Our health authorities have asked us to wear a mask whenever we’re unable to be socially distanced. We’ll respect that. 6. We understand if you are still not comfortable joining us. Although a podcast or sermon audio is no replacement for gathering as a church, we understand the trepidation & will do our best to make the sermon audio available soon after the service. 7. Avoiding a hug right now is not to be interpreted as someone’s personal fear of the virus. We are fist bumping and elbow tapping right now because we don’t want to inadvertently spread the virus to folks who are particularity vulnerable to this virus. It’s really that simple. (This reality has hit close to home for many of us.) Finally, we are needed and needy. The body needs you and you need the body. These have been some tricky times for sure but this principal hasn’t changed. Our prayer is that we would continue to grow into this reality as a faith family. We may have differing opinions on certain topics but again we pray, in the strength of His grace, we can be of the same mind! May the glory of God and the unity of His church capture our greatest passions. Hope to see you Sunday.
