Yesterday I tried to share some joyful and colorful pictures of Malibu's beaches with you. An area of Los Angels that certainly does not represent the reality of things. Unfortunately the city is undergoing a vertical decline with this pandemic. Hollywood and Downtown LA are suffering and life, like in any metropolis, is hard and the signs of suffering are seen on every corner. Together with a dear friend, today we drove for an hour to the financial district of Los Angeles. F...ollowing Sunset Boulevard, we passed West Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silverlake and Downtown. In some areas the deterioration is really serious. As a photographer I did not want to fall into the typical cliche of photographing the poor homesless but rather to witness a moment of our existence which is complex and for many, tragic. Un'area di Los Angels che non rappresenta sicuramente la realta' delle cose. Purtroppo la citta' sta subendo, con questa pandemia, un declino verticale. Hollywood e Downtown LA stanno soffredo e la vita, come in ogni metropoli, e' dura ed i segni del dalla sofferenza si vedono ad ogni angolo. Assieme ad una cara amica, oggi abbiamo guidato per un'ora fino al centro finanziario di Los Angeles. Seguendo Sunset Boulevard, siamo passati da West Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silverlake e Downtown. In alcune zone il degrado e' veramente serio. Da fotografo non volevo cascare nel tipico cliche' di fotografare i poveri homesless ma piuttosto testimoniare un momento della nostra esistenza complessa e per molti, tragica. It's been 10 years since I took the photo I love most. I was walking on a foggy day of January towards the Point Reyes lighthouse, above San Francisco Bay Area. Suddenly, the sun started peaking trough the dense fog and illuminate this little kid who was playing and the house behind him. It was really just for a second, little after his parents were walking towards him and the photo would have been different. Sono passati 10 anni da quando ho scattato la foto a cui sono più ...legato. In una nebbiosa giornata di Gennaio, stavo camminando verso il faro di Point Reyes, sopra la baia di San Francisco. Improvvisamente il sole ha cominciato a fare capolino tra la densa nebbia e ad illuminare questo bambino che stava giocando da solo e la casetta dietro a lui. E' stato un attimo, dopo qualche secondo i genitori che lo stavano seguendo sarebbero apparsi nella scena e la foto sarebbe stata molto diversa. See more

Staying at home all the time could be really boring. The past weekend I drove along the coast to Topanga Beach in Malibu and tested my new camera with a long tele lens and I tried to capture some surfers. It was a fun afternoon after all even though I was hoping for huge waves and crazy stunts from the surfers. It was still a refreshing day !

Working with Emmy magazine gives me the opportunity to photograph always interesting people in the television business. Mara Akil is an amazing producer and screenwriter.
