1031 Exchange EXTENSIONS. Relief for Taxpayers Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic. Taxpayers with a 1031 exchange period that expires on the April 15th tax deadline because their relinquished property closed between October 18, 2019 and December 31, 2019 may elect to take advantage of the IRS 90-day extension to obtain the benefit of their entire 180-day exchange period. Alternatively, for taxpayers who have not requested an extension and do not elect to take advantage of the IRS... 90-day extension, the exchange period will end at midnight on April 15, 2020 and any remaining funds can be disbursed on April 16, 2020.
