Thank you to The Alvarado Project and the Filipino American Arts Exposition (FAAE) for hosting this moving forum honoring the 76th Anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landing and the stories of WWII War Brides. We must not forget the monumental and historic impact of these events, especially since it is inextricably linked to California’s history. Thank you to our Filipino American veterans and their families! #VeteransDay

I know President-elect Joe Biden and VP-elect Kamala Harris will prioritize the climate crisis with the urgency it deserves. I'm excited to see my Buy Clean California law suggested as an element of that solution! Let's align the government's purchasing power with our values to fight this existential threat! https://wapo.st/36nk8V0

A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount up to and including their life. Happy #VeteransDay! During this month of gratitude, we show our deep appreciation for all of the brave individuals who dutifully served our country. Join Swords to Plowshares for their virtual Veterans Day Celebration tonight at 6:30pm as they celebrate local veterans working on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a keynote address by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and an interview with "Community Hero" award recipient, Craig Newmark.

I appreciate Gov. Gavin Newsom's pardon of Somdeng Danny Thongsy and his belief in and commitment to people, rehabilitation, and redemption. I wrote to support this pardon for a man who fled war as a child, was incarcerated for two decades for poor choices as a teenager, and has now transformed his life. Danny is deeply committed to making positive contributions to society as an advocate for social change and has earned this second chance.

California is leading the fight in the U.S. Supreme Court to maintain the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the face of another Republican-led attack in California v. Texas. Our state’s health insurance exchange, Covered California, has successfully protected millions of people who have pre-existing conditions and who would have been turned away from coverage before Obamacare was signed into law in 2010. If the ACA is struck down, California would lose the most of any state-- $27 billion in funding to provide health care to our fellow Californians. Especially during a pandemic, but at any time, health care is a right, not a privilege; for all, not the few. We will defend that right! https://www.latimes.com//supreme-court-hears-latest-gop-bi

Thank you Disney for this heart-warming celebration of Filipino immigrant families. While our holidays may look a little different this year, we know that love is what keeps us close and what makes the season special. Happy holidays! Maligayang Pasko! #FromOurFamilyToYours

California’s COVID19 positivity rate and hospitalizations continue to rise. In just the last few weeks our positivity rate has gone from 2.5% to 3.7%. Hospitalizations have also jumped 28% and currently 4% of the state’s ICU beds are being used to treat COVID patients. As colder weather settles in and holidays approach, things could get worse! We must stay focused on wearing masks and limiting contact with people we don’t live with. We are currently going backward with our pr...ogress. As a result, we expect more California counties will have to implement new restrictions this week. And while there was very welcome news today announcement by Pfizer that a vaccine in clinical trials is reportedly 90% effective, mass distribution of a vaccine would still be months away. That means we must keep one another safe and stay vigilant! These upcoming months really matter! https://www.kcra.com//gov-newsom-coronavirus-upda/34620175# See more

The Illinois District Court has ruled that the Trump administrations’ public charge rule exceeds the Department of Homeland Security’s authority and should permanently be blocked from implementation nationwide. The expansion of public charge targets our most vulnerable communities and causes hardship to untold numbers of immigrants trying to realize their own American dream. It says that if you're sick, if you're poor, if you don't speak English "well" enough, if you're old, if you're young - we don't want you. It is contrary to California's values. While this is good news, the fight is not over. We must continue to stand with our immigrant communities and our values of opportunity, equity, justice, and inclusion for all! https://news.bloomberglaw.com//trumps-public-charge-rule-t
