Road Race Engineering (official) 31.01.2021

Just when you get used to the flow of Pikes Peak, it is race day. Thursday was final pack and prep the box van. Friday pick up the car at the port. Saturday pack personal stuff and hit the road. Sunday arrive in Colorado Springs and check in. Monday is tech inspection. Each day we practice a different section of the mountain. When on the bottom section, that is your qualifying time. You don't run the full mountain until race day.... Practice each day Tuesday through Friday starts as soon as it is light enough to drive. So that means set your alarm for 2:30 and be out the door by 3:15am. Drive up the mountain and set up your pit by 4:30 and drivers meeting at 5am. First car off at 5:45 and do as many runs as possible till 9am. Now you are "done" back to the motel by 10am, but still need to run errands, tweak the car, prep for the next day and try to get to sleep at 8pm but you never can :-p So you nap when you can. Rinse - repeat. Saturday is a respite. We only have to get the race car and support vehicle set in the pits by 6pm. Last prep on the car was done on Friday so just a check of the box van before the tow back to LA. Sunday morning up at 4:30 am to be at the mountain by 5:30. 6:30 drivers meeting and first car off the starting line at 7:30. We go up maybe 11am or noon depending on incidents and delays. We are hoping for good weather finally for a full run for Akio. The last two years the best way to get a good hail storm here going was to call Akio to the start line. We wait for the cars to come down the mountain after all have started and finished and back to the #elcoloradolodge Sunday night load up and get a head start on the 25 hour tow back to LA. Arrive at the shop and unload Tuesday. Get the GT3 back to the port later in the week after we have had some real sleep Then start planning for next year! @ Pikes Peak - America's Mountain

We are @pikespeakhillclimb this week with Akio Kobayashi racing his 2000 911 GT3 from Japan. All the practice sessions are done and he was able to qualify safely in the middle of the field in the Pikes Peak Open class. Attrition has been heavy this week with both crashes and mechanical failures taking out seemingly half of the class. Akio has kept his runs clean and precise. He is a hill climb champion from Japan and this is his third year racing at Pikes Peak. The last two times his runs were cut short by bad weather. We are hopeful this year with the forecast that he will be able to run all the way to the top of the 14,000 mountain. @ Pikes Peak - America's Mountain

@zeitronix.inc Zt-4 Dual Wideband and the new Kt-4 K Type thermocouple display helped me finally get the Webber IDA carbs jetted for the 2443cc motor. The mid range was too rich at the top of the idle jets just before the transition to the main jets. With the Zt-4 AFR meter I was able to nail it down and dial it right in. I could also see when the left idle air tube got clogged up. The extensions from CB fixed that. Looking at CHT with the Kt-4 spark plug temp sensors it helped confirm the carb balance and freeway cooling of the 911 style fan shroud. @ The SEMA Show
