These three powerhouse organizations have joined together to ensure hungry and homebound senior Angelenos receive three meals a day and a variety of shelf-stable foods to get them through during this challenging time. Many seniors in LA visited senior centers for their meals, comfort and companionship. With the centers closed, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels has increased their usual meal preparation and deliveries to accommodate those in need. Bravo !

A Message from St. Vincent Meals on Wheels Executive Director, Veronica Dover: As the nation’s largest, privately funded senior nutrition program, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels (SVMOW) will continue to provide daily meals on an adapted delivery schedule to limit in-person contact. In an effort to serve our more than 2,000 hungry and homebound, mostly elderly clients, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels will shift from delivering and serving daily hot meals to preparing and deliverin...g hot meals every other day as well as delivering frozen, cold and shelf-stable meals to each client every week. This change is being undertaken in an effort to limit contact with a frail population and to observe the social distancing guidelines recommended by public health officials. The program is stepping up production of meals to meet the demand, not only of existing SVMOW clients, but of the increasing number of seniors who are becoming homebound due to the social distancing recommended by federal and local officials. Moreover, procedures are being established for emergency shelf stable box assembly and for their storage so they may be stored until ready for use. The utmost care is being taken to ensure the SVMOW staff and volunteers remain healthy and able to meet the increased demand for meals. New volunteers are being accepted, although orientation and training will be subject to staff availability to conduct the training. Donations are welcomed and are of great assistance as the organization strives to meet the increased demand for meals. www.stvincentmow.org
