We won’t solve anything if we’re only willing to do what’s easiest. - Michelle Obama . As a company, we have committed this past week to listening more carefully to the stories of struggle in the Black community; deeply reflecting on our own beliefs, biases and privilege; mindfully taking action to bring justice for the victims of racism by donating and signing petitions; rethinking which businesses we support with our buying power; and brainstorming how we can start where ...we are to break down the barriers and systems preventing true equality in this country. . But this is only the beginning. Fighting for equality is not a trending topic to be forgotten with the arrival of the next news cycle. It is a MOVEMENT and it will require daily action. We are committing to the following: . Speaking up about the lack of diversity in the event industry and demanding more inclusive representation in event publications, at conferences, on podcasts, etc. We appreciate @jasonroars and @_a_n_i_k_a_ ‘s helpful template as a start to these conversations (see Jason’s feed for details). . Broadening our own vendor pool to be more inclusive of members of the Black Community and People of Color. Our clients, who come from diverse backgrounds, deserve to be presented with the most exceptional vendor options that offer a wider range of perspectives and experiences beyond our own personal ones. . Using our platform to share information that promotes positive change. We are in the business of creating deeper human connections through shared experiences. We want to help our own community create deeper connections with this movement for equality. This transcends politics. This is a human issue and we will continue making space for the voices that need to be heard. . These long overdue first steps will lead to next steps. May we never return to business as usual.
