Every year, we celebrate the Oeshiki-Ichijo Festival in the area surrounding the Great Sacred Hall of Rissho Kosei-kai, Japan in October. This year due to the pandemic, it was unfortunately cancelled. We honor the memory of the 13th century Buddhist priest Nichiren. He persevered in disseminating the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, overcoming many difficulties and much persecution. His work enabled later Buddhists to understand and practice the teachings of the sutra with l...ess difficulty. On this occasion, members deepen their gratitude to him and remember his great virtues and achievements. Here in the United States, Dharma Centers also participate in various local parades twirling the Matoi and bopping the Mando pagoda in honor of Nichiren. By his teaching of transience, Shakyamuni meant that one should not be distracted by fleeting moments of splendor. One achieves true happiness only when one is free to adapt to change. This teaching opens our eyes to the realities before us and gives us the strength to live with hope for the future.

The Eightfold Path is taught in the Four Noble Truths as a way to eliminate suffering.

The Buddha's answer to the problem of suffering is summed up in the Four Noble Truths, the subject of his first sermon after his awakening. We can reach the state of nirvana, which is peace and tranquillity, through deeply understanding the truths that all things are impermanent & nothing has an ego.

Annual Memorial Day for Founder Nikkyo Niwano. He passed away on October 4, 1999. This anniversary reminds members of his dedication to the liberation of humanity and the achievement of world peace. They reflect upon and praise his virtues and express their gratitude to him by renewing their dedication to activities for peace and the public welfare.
