#TBT- As the old saying goes, When it rains, it pours, and sometimes at RCC, When it rains, it floods. This happened on December 22, 2010 when Wheelock Field found itself underwater after the canal overflowed. This wasn’t an isolated incident, as you can see in the photo from the 1952 Tequesquite Wheelock Field became Wheelock Lake.
#TBT-Ira Christopher Landis served the Riverside school districts for 67 years. In 1919 he was appointed Riverside County Superintendent of Schools where he worked harmoniously with the Board of Education and college administration. He helped to implement financial processes in the 30s and the wartime expansion programs in the 40s. Landis Auditorium was constructed in 1952 and dedicated in 1955 in honor of this respected leader. Now known as the Landis Performing Arts Center, the venue hosts student and professional theater and dance productions. The Center is also home to Performance Riverside, a decades old professional musical theater production.
#FlashBackFriday - Exciting news in Fall 1934! RCC introduced two new courses, radio writing and broadcast technique. Taught by Miss Bernice Foley, Director of Continuity for the O.K.O. Sound Studios of Hollywood, the course in radio writing covered broadcast history, sound effects, writing types, audience appeal, and characterization transcriptions. While the broadcast technique class focused on the historical background of broadcasting studio equipment, audience surveys, and play and drama production.
