Children learn by imitating scenes from their daily experiences as they act out eating, sleeping, shopping or playing. Often, they will repeat phrases they have... heard adults use in association with an activity. Imitating events in their lives gives them a jumping-off point for their own storytelling, embellishing and adding to the story they have lived. As your child begins to babble and says his first words, support your little one's early communication efforts by following the two R's: Recognize and Respond. ...Recognize your baby's signals a facial expression, eye contact or reaching. Respond to these signals as communication. Let the baby know, "I heard you!" This encourages your baby to communicate more. You are also demonstrating that conversations have two sides and that both partners get a turn. This will help your baby begin to predict that you will respond and helps makes conversations exciting for both of you. The words will come in time.
