Barb and I have always considered the service to God and country to be of the highest calling. Please indulge us to share this honor bestowed upon our daughter, 1st Lieutenant Kaylie Welch USAF for meritorious service as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. Barb and I are truly grateful to receive this recognition from Assemblymember Christina Garcia. Our mortuary is our ministry to the bereaved. As Paul wrote to the Corinthians. "Comfort those in their time of sorrow, as God comforts us in our sorrow", 2 Corinthians 4-1. We have been blessed to serve those in their worst time.

Risher Mortuary and Cremation Service was honored this year to award $10,000 in scholarships to high school students in our community. The Risher Mortuary "Caring for Others" scholarship was developed by Barbara Risher Welch and husband, Greg Welch, to encourage and support our local students who are inspired to utilize their education to care for others. Barbara Risher Welch, owner of Risher Mortuary, and husband, Greg Welch, just returned from the Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany. Rotary International is a service organization for neighbors, friends, and problem solvers to share ideas, join leaders and take action to create a lasting change. Eradicating polio worldwide, clean water projects and educational opportunities for the underserved are just a few of the tremendous programs that Rotary is deeply engaged in. Barb is a 28 year member of the Montebello Rotary Club while Greg is the current President of the Rotary Club of Downey. Please, won’t you join us! We also have a lot of fun while we’re performing Service Above Self.

Risher Mortuary would like to congratulate our own Maria Robideau, advanced planning councilor, for being recognized by the Downey Chamber of Commerce for her high ethical and professional standards as well as her dedication to the betterment of the community. Maria goes above and beyond her call of duty for our families who decide to plan ahead for the ultimate celebration of their lives. She is integral to our ministry by providing comfort to those planning, and relief to those bereaved. Throughout American history, the men and women of our Armed Forces have selflessly served our country, making tremendous sacrifices to defend our liberty. Guerra, who gave his last full measure of devotion for our country. The All Service Club Award recognizes the commitment and significant efforts in supporting the growth and betterment of their community.
