The San Francisco City & County mandate for Shelter in Place due to the pandemic has been extended through the end of May. At present we are complying with the order by temporarily suspending patient services for the safety of our staff and patients. If you wish to arrange a telederm visit in the meantime, please send a request to frontdesk@sfderm or leave a message with the answering service at 415-564-1261. All electronic prescription refill requests from your pharmacy will be filled within 24 hours. Any prescription requests that are sent to us by fax can delay the refill for 48-72 hours. We will continue to update any change in plans by posting notices here. Practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of the virus and wash your hands frequently as recommended by the CDC. We hope to see you soon.

The most common cause of hair loss is heredity (genetic) thinning hair or baldness also known as androgenetic alopecia. See Dr. Glogau for a consultation as there are also other potential causes such as thyroid disorders and auto-immune diseases like lupus. Another common cause of hair loss is alopecia areata, an auto-immune disorder where the hair loss can be either patchy or diffuse. Correct diagnosis is essential to selecting treatment pathways so make an appointment to discuss your options.
