INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT! Lane Sanders is a prominent drummer/percussionist in the San Francisco Bay Area, mostly in the genre of musical theater. He’s performed in three world premiere musicals, one of which - Ain’t Too Proud - has gone on to have a residency on Broadway. Lane also has an extensive marching percussion background, and is currently the percussion caption head for the San Jose State University Marching Band. Having a masters degree in percussion performance from SJSU, he performs with area symphonies as well, such as Symphony Silicon Valley and the California Symphony. Come take a lesson with Lane! INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT! Brietta Greger is a session percussionist, well versed in all styles and genres. She specializes in contemporary-classical chamber music and musical theater, but also plays and teaches orchestral, rudimental, jazz, pop/rock, non-Western, classical, improvisation, Hindustani, and much more. Brietta is comfortable as a soloist, member of a chamber ensemble, or member of a large ensemble, and has experience with recording, triggering electronics, performing with dancers, touring, and working with both children (as young as seven) and adults. Here's Rhythm Academy Instructor Stuart Langsam with 3 tips for calming anxiety before a performance: "1. Slow breathing helps to calm you body/brain before going on stage for a performance. 2. Telling yourself positive phrases before a performance such as: "You got this! - Try your best! - You can do it!" 3. Remind yourself that music is supposed to be fun and to never forget that. We're human beings and mistakes can, and will, happen. Just try to play your best and hav...e fun!" We know not many of you are performing now with the event cancelations, but these tips can be applied to other areas as well. We hope you're able to take something away from these tips!

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT! Andy Ziker is one of our fantastic teachers at The Rhythm Academy. Andy believes that everyone has the potential to be a good drummer, no matter your age or natural talent. It takes a combination of a self-motivated practice routine and the right kind of instruction. If you study with Andy, he will devise a multi-sensory plan, tailor-made for your learning style. He has experience teaching students as young as two and as old as 87, and is known for his work with the learning challenged.
