Some pictures from yesterday’s control burn on the phillips 66 property on the south east side of highway 80 in Rodeo. Lots of very valuable training as well as fire fuels mitigation were achieved. Engine75 assisted @crockettcarquinezfirefighters with a injured mountain biker approximately 1/2 mile down a single track trail in the Crockett Hills Regional Park. A simple rope system was set up to get the downed mountain biker approximately 20 feet up a steep hill and back to the trail. Crews used a stokes basket with a wheel to walk the patient out to a waiting ambulance.

Earlier today your Rodeo Hercules firefighters responded to a report of 2 separate fires burning in the grass along eastbound highway 4. Our firefighters made a quick knockdown on the first fire while engine 13 took the second. ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL: We want to give a special shoutout to 76A shift in Hercules. 76A shift responded to a call outside Dominos pizza to an elderly gentleman whom had fallen out of his mobility scooter and down an embankment. The crew helped the gentleman and AMR transported him. But furthermore they answered the call for help above and beyond the call to service. They without hesitation returned to their station to return to the scene with a pickup in order to bring the patients mobility scooter safely home for him. Early this morning your Rodeo-Hercules firefighters assisted Pinole Fire Department along with @contracostacountyfire , @crockettcarquinezfirefighters, @richmondfirefighterslocal188 and el cerrito fire for a structure fire in the city of pinole. Arriving crews were faced with heavy fire conditions in the garage, top floor of the living space and attic. The gas meter was damaged and was well involved as well but firefighters were able to safely isolate the gas valve to control the gas fire. Thanks to an aggressive fire attack the fire was controlled and limited to only the one structure, adjacent structures were saved. Thank you to all the agencies who responded, being such a small department we can’t do it alone.

Another mutual aid chimney fire in Crockett. Engine 75 went to the roof for a small fire in the chimney of a 3 story home. On this Christmas Eve afternoon your Rodeo Hercules Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire in Crockett. Chief 7800 and E-78 (Crockett) arrived on scene to find smoke and flames from the structures chimney/roof and declared a working fire establishing Bridgeview IC. E-78 stretched a line and made an aggressive interior fire attack. Q-76 (Hercules) and E-75 (Rodeo) arrived on scene and stretched an additional line to the roof of the structure and knocked down fire on the exterior of the chimney. Q-76 cut open the roof to check for extension into the attic and allowed E-75 to knock down any fire extending into the structure and the walls of the chimney. A close friend to your Rodeo-Hercules Firefighter’s, @hercules_speed_shop took notice of last weeks donation by a local car club and came by this morning with his ride and some rides for kids as well. For the last 20 years @hercules_speed_shop has donated new bicycles for children in need throughout West Contra Costa via East Bay Bikes for Tykes as well. Thanks again @hercules_speed_shop, the Marines will be making they’re last pickup this week and these will be going to those in need via or collaboration with Toy’s for Tot’s for this years toy drive! Congratulations Carlo for completing your 10 shift. Wondering what a 10 shift is? Glad you asked The purpose of our 10 shift is to provide a foundation of training to our new employees on how we as a district operate on a daily level to serve our amazing community. Daily, Carlo had to complete multiple manipulative evolutions, drills, classroom sessions and his daily written exam. To successfully pass his 10 shift, yesterday he was tested on manipulative skills as well as a 100 question exam. Now he is off to start his probation with his new crew where he will have to complete a task book of training sign offs and tests once more. Good luck Carlo and keep your chin up!

Arriving crews located fire behind the gym building. The fire extended to the rear portion of the adjacent barn building with moderate smoke conditions through the attic space requiring crews to pull down much of the ceili...ng to look for extension. Crews from Rodeo-Hercules E75 conducted a search inside of the shop building looking for extension. All buildings are standing and structurally sound and no injuries were reported. A total of five engine companies and three chief officers were on scene, along with EMS and PG&E. For his first tour of work we would like to introduce everyone to the newest member of our team, Carlo Granzella. Carlo will be going through our departments training program called a 10 shift. During this time he will be going over many different topics of hands on training before he begins with his normal crew.

Your Rodeo Hercules Firefighters have returned home safely from their initial attack assignment on the glass incident in Napa County. Our experience and resilience as firefighters was most definitely put to the test. A lot of great work was performed by our members and some great saves to life and property were made. Early this evening both of our companies were dispatched to a report of a capsized boat with one victim in the water. A Phillips 66 staff member witnessed the capsize occur and threw a life ring to the victim. The US COAST GUARD was in the area and pulled the man aboard. The real hero of this story is the victims life vest which truly saved a life tonight in the rough bay waters. Please, always remember to wear a life vest, your life may depend on it. This afternoon your Rodeo Hercules firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Catalina Dr. in Hercules. Upon arrival E-76 had confirmed all residences made it out of the structure, then made a quick interior attack and knocked down the fire. The fire was held to one bedroom.
