The Rhetoric Behind The Golden Globes Part 1: Movies & Their Messages . Many of the winners and nominees were movies that tackled sensitive issues like racism, belonging, identity, family and the pursuit of one's dreams. They dealt with societal topics and issues like democracy, discrimination, employment and classism. . Check out more about One Night In Miami directed by Regina King, Nomadland directed by Chloe Zhao, Soul directed by Kemp Powers & Pete Docter, Minary direc...ted by Lee Isaac Chung, The Trial of Chicago 7 directed by Aaron Sorkin. . Questions to Consider: [1.] How did these movies convey a message that is relevant in contemporary society? . [2.] What makes Zhao’s win significant for the entertainment community and society in general? . [3.] What are some themes associated with Nomadland? . [4.] What movies did you think should have received more scholarly attention in academia and why? . [5.] Name an issue that you felt was relevant in all of the nominated films and how does it appeal to rhetoric? . A big thank you to @elifstufekci96 for your incredible work and collaboration on this post! Today is #NativeAmericanHeritageDay closing out November's #NativeAmericanHistoryMonth Recognizing and celebrating Indigenous communities and cultures upends the settler-colonial narrative put forth through the Doctorine of Discovery... The rhetoric of these days of recognition function as an act of survivance and combats the erasure of Native communities brought about by the continued settler occupation of ancestral lands. SDSU exists on ancestral Kumeyaay lands. Today's Native American Heritage Day is a great opportunity to learn more about the culture and people who are still a very active part of the San Diego community. Thanks to RWS lecturer Matt Fowler for the lesson! Check out @sdsunativerc and @sdsuamericanindianstudies for more resources. #thisisrhetoric #rhetoricintherealworld
