Thinking about having a first birthday cake smash? It's going to be messy but also so much fun! We love a simple cake that sticks with the theme but doesn't grab attention away from the kiddo. There is just something so sweet about little toddler shoulder. This is one of the random little things I miss as my little one grows up. (feeling sentimental)

Finding the perfect outfit for your toddler's photoshoot... Clothing should not compete for attention with your child. The eyes should be drawn to the child, not the clothing. What I highly recommend for newborn and toddler shoots are neutral tones with a bit of texture. This focuses the attention on their cute face and really lets them shine in the photos. Take my hand, there's a world I need to know

Mom reached out to me about her daughters #firstbirthday cake smash. She sent inspiration photos and hand picked this outfit for her little one to wear. I wanted to create a light, airy and romantic look for this session so I decided to hang roses in the background and scatter nettles on the floor. @couturecupcakery created the perfect #nakedcake and I am pretty proud of my flower decorating skills. Thank you @lovehermadlylb for finding the perfect flowers in the perfect colors for this session.

Tips for photo sessions with siblings... Although I love seeing the magic unfold between two siblings, these sessions often come with unknowns. Will they behave? How will the baby react? I'm here to give all parents out there that are thinking about capturing these precious moments some tips and tricks to making the best out of these shoots! 1. Make the siblings feel like they have a job during the session. Most siblings are excited for t...he cake and want to jump in at eat. Patience is key for the big kids. I will have them interact with the baby during the shoot and then release them to eat cake and have fun at the end when baby has had their fill. 2. Prepare! This is not a daily routine for most people and especially little ones. The surroundings can be overstimulating. I always make a point to make everyone feel comfortable and give ample time for little ones to warm up to the space and to me. 3. Let them be. The best photos (like the one above ) always come naturally. We will get lots of looking and having fun images before the cake portion of the session. Not all babies dig right in or dig in at all. This is when personalities come out and we just have to watch them unfold. Some of my favorite images have come from sibling shoots and I can't wait to create more!
