A cool discussion about some parent-child dynamics that has a lot of application for all kinds of relationships! A couple of the thoughts that stuck out for me is how to be able to create a safe space for kids (or anyone) to express big feelings without judgment from us, while at the same time holding limits on what we are and are not willing to do for them. It's so easy to fall to one side or the other on this, either try to get rid of the feeling they are having by correcting it out of them, or just be swept up by the emotion and try to get rid of the feeling by doing whatever they want.
