NIGHT FEEDING . . Since the days are shorter and the flock has grown to the point that I now need to use the tractor to haul enough hay to feed everyone I just installed a light bar on the tractor since the bucket blocks the headlights. GIVING THANKS: . . Today is a very special day for Evan and me. Ever since we started dating and moved across the country, we’ve had Thanksgiving dinners that have ranged from two people (Just Ev and me) to 80+ people (at our wedding). We love gathering with family and friends and stuffing them to the gills with the food we prepare with love and we enjoy celebrating a year that’s nearly over, and a new one that is about to begin. .... . This year is quite differentfor all of us. Today we give thanks for a multitude of other reasons. We give thanks that our families have remained healthy and whole during this pandemic. We are thankful that those we know who have been affected, have made recoveries. We feel sorrow for those that have lost loved ones. We feel sorrow for the fact that we can’t be with our loved ones in the ways we have been in the past, and we feel that for you too. For the family you’re missing at your dinner table tonight. . . Every year we have set an empty seat at our Thanksgiving dinner table, called the Seder seat. It is a Jewish tradition that both Evan and I find incredibly beautiful. Since we’ve been in California there have been many years that we’ve not been able to be with all our families, so we set the seat for them. We set the seat for loved ones we’ve lost. We set the seat for you. . . Some years the seat has been filled by an extra guest that showed up with a friend. My own brother filled our Seder seat at our wedding! Some years the seat remains empty but know that there is ALWAYS a seat at our table for you. . . We know that a lot of us are struggling. Holidays bring up so many emotions already and adding a pandemic to it makes the anxiety creep up to a whole new level. But with a little creativity we can still be together. We have two Turkey day Zoom meetings scheduled with our family, and we’re going to celebrate in the only safe way we can. . . Whether you’re fortunate enough to have family in your home today or if you’re celebrating with just your laptop and a glass of wine with your loved ones make the most of it! We miss you all. We wish with all our hearts that we could be together. We have our sights set on 2021 being a year of joy and a year where we can all gather again safely. . . May we all find peace and give thanks. . . Happy Thanksgiving! . . At each table there is an empty chair ... Jewish history tells of a beloved prophet by the name of Elijah, who appears in times of trouble to bring promise of relief, to lift downcast spirits, and to plant hope in the hearts of the downtrodden. PERSEVERANCE: . . Here we are. Another year, albeit an extremely challenging year, in the books. A year of waiting. A year of following up. A year of phone calls and a year of more waiting. After all of that, Evan and I finally, FINALLY have the permits in hand to start building our cheese kitchen! .... . Our hope is that this is a good omen of what’s to come in 2021.
