Two peas in a pod named Cheddar and Brie are ready to be adopted! They even had their second vaccine this week so they are good to go! I’m surprised that they a...re still here. Please let me know any questions or concerns and I’ll answer them all. And of course potential adopted can meet them, spend time watching just how well they have adapted. They surprise me everyday with what they do. I realize that many want what they believe to be the perfect kittens. But I also remind you that just because they are different doesn’t make them less! They are two of the most loving, fun, inspiring kittens to ever pass they out doors! See more

TRINO AND HIS SISTER, SERENA, JUST ARRIVED AT THE MONTECITO PET SHOP ON THE MESA! These two were born to a mom who had ELEVEN kittens! Yes, eleven. Eight surviv...ed and you are looking at the best of the best here. They are black-brown tabby kittens that will melt your heart. Purring is their main past time and it might be fun to adopt both as they create quite the melody. They were in pretty bad shape when they arrived at RESQCATS, but they are healthy, happy, playful, lovable and just looking for a forever home. Trino and Serena have had vet exams, are tested for Felv/FIV (so was their mom) and had a fecal exam. They have had their first FVRCP vaccination and are dewormed, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped. They can be adopted through RESQCATS at The Montecito Pet Shop on the Mesa at 2020 Cliff Drive (close to Von's). Adoption hours are 10-5 and the number for the shop is (805)965-6780. See more

ATHENA IS LOOKING FOR A HOME! This beautiful girl was found in Oxnard and when no one claimed her, she was brought to RESQCATS. She was PREGNANT with SEVEN kitt...ens. She gave birth here and raised her family and it was just a joy to watch them being born, her caring for them, growing and finally leaving for college (just kidding) and going to their forever homes. I hate to think of any cat trying to fend for themselves and take care or such a large litter on the streets. Now it is time for Athena to find a home. It's obvious that she had one at some point as she is a sweet cat...she may be a bit cautious at first, but she loves head rubs (she buries her head in my hand), belly massages and she doesn't mind being picked up. I realize it is the peak of kitten season, and while many of you are out there anxious for kittens, remember, they came from somewhere! They have moms...and moms need homes too. By adopting a mother cat after all her kittens are gone, you are making more of a difference than you know. Each time you do so and an enclosure opens up at RESQCATS, it allows me to help another pregnant mom, or a litter of kittens, or save a mom and her unborn kittens from a high-kill shelter. Athena is a beautiful, sensitive Russian Blue girl with eyes the color of emeralds. She has had a vet exam, Felv/FIV test and fecal exam. She is wormed, vaccinated, spayed and micro-chipped. So what's left to do? Find her a home. Want to meet Athena? Personal message me, leave a comment or email me at: [email protected] See more

Roux---a RESQCATS resident...all grown up! Roux was found with her littermates when she was only three to four weeks old. She wasn't like her siblings; somethin...g was different. She was born with short front legs. The condition is a genetic disorder and usually affects the front legs. For unknown reasons, the bones don't develop properly, but kittens born with the condition do just fine. Don't feel sorry for this little girl! She is resilient and does all the same things other kittens can do! Two years ago, Deanna Koens, one of our foster moms who bottle feeds motherless kittens was asked to take Roux and wean her. Once she was eating solid food, Roux was supposed to go to another rescue in Northern California. But Deanna and her husband fell in love with this special girl, so she became a RESQCATS resident. That means that RESQCATS will be responsible for her lifetime care and provide any medical attention she may need. Most likely, Roux would've been considered un-adoptable in many shelters and we all know what that means...her life would've ended. So we think she's one lucky girl! One might expect that a kitten without the use of her front legs would be limited, but it hasn't stopped Roux! Watching her develop and discover ways to do all the things kittens with four legs do has been amazing. She is a true testament to that saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way." Nothing slows her down. She's learned how to play and chase toys like any other kitten. She's even mastered the three tiered tower of tracks toy and uses her front legs to chase the balls. The laser light is one of her favorites! She runs at full speed in order to catch it. Those back legs can sure go! Of course, it's best to let Roux chase it on the carpet runner Deanna puts on the floor. And believe it or not, she now jumps onto Deanna's dining room table chairs. Oh-oh, that means the table is next! Just one more thing; we don't call Roux "disabled." We refer to her as "specially abled!" A MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE... I've had some time to reflect back on 2020 and I just want to take a moment to thank each and every one for all you have given so grac...iously. My pace in 2020 was unbelievable with all the added challenges of COVID, the long days and extra responsibilities of operating in a safe manner. Now that I think about many of those days...well, it makes me wonder how I did it? That's an easy question to answer! I got through it because of all of you. There were so many special cats that came through RESQCATS with huge medical expenses; Aurora, Tesha, Boo-Boo, Anastasia, Mango, Buttercup and several others. I asked a lot of you in the way of donations so that I could provide whatever medical care they needed. Your generosity in the way of donations truly saved the lives of these...and many others. How do I begin to express my appreciation for always being there to contribute your hard-earned dollars to any of these special little lives? For those who offered support in other ways...you kind words of encouragement, your "likes," "loves" and emotional support have been so important on a daily basis...you, too, have made such a difference. For those volunteers who continued to come to RESQCATS to help "clean up the party the cats have at night," I couldn't have done it without you. And to the fosters who worked around the clock saving newborn kittens without moms, your dedication is beyond any words of gratitude that I can express. I think many of the kitties gave us something to focus on besides the fears and uncertainty of the pandemic. We had survivors, fighters and heroes in furry bodies. They symbolized hope and brought light to our hearts. And I might add, I am certain that they would thank you, too. From the bottom of my heart, you will never know how much you have touched my heart, lifted my spirits during tough times and made all those hard days worth the fight. I will take a bit of a rest this winter, spend time with my resident cats, maybe do a little drawing and attempt to do a stay-home vacation and not risk traveling to my home in Yachats as I usually do. I'll have to let you know how a Type A perfectionist personality does with all that! LOL! But I do know that I look forward to starting our 24th season in the Spring. I just wanted to thank you for all you have done in the the 23rd! With love and hope for 2021! Jeffyne PS YES, that's a photo of Boo-Boo...then...and now!

2021 IS ALMOST HERE! AND RESQCATS WILL BEGIN OUR 24th YEAR! Many of you will be making donations to non-profit organizations for those last minute tax deduction...s. For those of you who have donated, my heartfelt thank you, but for those who are writing those checks and using PayPal, this message is for you. There are many worthy organizations to consider, so I want to take a moment to ask you to put RESQCATS on your list. RESQCATS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, care and adoption of stray and abandoned cats and kittens. The challenges in 2020 have been many, but we found a way to face these tough times and we accomplished a lot in 2020, even during COVID: 177 cats and kittens were adopted (we will reach 3400 total adoptions in early 2021!) 76 additional cats were spayed and neutered by assisting other groups and individuals. Many other cats and kittens received medical care through RESQCATS. Over $12,000 in food donations and dollars raised to purchase food for families with pets who had lost their jobs due to COVID. By providing food for their cats and dogs, the animals could remain with their families and avoid being turned into shelters due to financial strains. Traps and transfer cages were purchased for Santa Barbara County Animal Services for the TNR (trap, neuter and return of feral cats) project. By spaying and neutering feral cats, we avoid hundreds of unwanted births of kittens. As you make your final decisions on which organizations to give, remember this: RESQCATS IS AN ALL-VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION SO 100% OF YOUR DONATION GOES TOWARDS THE CAT AND KITTENS. You may make your donation by check made out to: RESQCATS; PO Box 3852; Santa Barbara, CA 93130 (make sure it is dated no later than December 31. Or visit our website and click on the donate button that will lead you directly to PayPal. www.RESQCATS.org As a last thought, while many of you will donate to RESQCATS, others may not as there are other causes that are important to you. So I ask that you donate to a cause that is important to you whether it is for humans, the animals, health, the environment, veterans or any of the other causes that are close to your heart. It will truly make a difference Now, more than ever, is a time of kindness and giving so that we can all continue to do our work in the non-profit world.

AN UPDATE ON STEVIE! It's been a couple of days since updating you on Stevie, but the news is mostly good! His eye is healing and although we are not out of the... woods, I'm feeling confident about his recovery. He is still on antibiotics and being monitored by the veterinarian every single day. I am so very grateful to Dee and Lindsey for all they are doing to care for this special little boy and for stepping up to do so with so many unknowns. It takes a huge heart, compassion and courage to take on a kitten like Stevie...but they agreed that Stevie was meant to be with them. A couple of photos now...and know that although he is resting here, this is one active little kitten who is feeling much better. I want to thank everyone who had offered words of support and to those who donated towards Stevie and Marci's care. Marci goes to her new home on Friday and Stevie will remain under RESQCATS care until his health issues are resolved...so thank you from the bottom of my heart. And thank you to Deanna for taking such good care of Stevie...who by the way has a new name...sort of new...he is now called "Stevie Sparkle!" See more

MARCI'S LAST FOLLOW-UP EXAM IS COMING UP AND THEN SHE IS READY TO GO HOME ON THURSDAY! Read all about her and YES, she can see and romp and climb and chase lase...r lights just like any kitten1 Marci was found as newborn with no mom and taken to Advanced Veterinary Specialist who then reached out to RESQCATS for help...the hospital staff is not equipped to bottle feed kittens every two hours! So off to foster care she went with her brother, Stevie, that you've been following. She had eye surgery almost two weeks ago to remove some excess tissue from her inner lids caused by a severe eye infection....but she is all good now and there should be no problems in the future. Yes, one of her eyes is cloudy and it will probably remain that way but she sees just fine...no worries. Marci is active and her foster mom, Deanna, says she needs the following...a tall cat tree! Marci rules the house from the top of the cat tree and she loves running up and down on all the levels! She gets along with other cats, and dogs and an active household would actually be good for this active girl. But make no mistake, she DOES love to be held and is very social due to all of Deanna's attention and loving care since she was just a few days old. Marci had had a vet exam, (several due to her eyes), is tested for Felv/FIV, received her first FVRCP vaccine, is wormed, spayed and micro-chipped. Many will see Marci as less than the perfect kitten because her eyes will always look different and will pass on adopting this beautiful girl. But there is someone out there who knows better, who realizes the struggle that Marci has faced and she has come out on the other end as a healthy little girl with lots to give...she will bring joy and laughter to whoever adopts her. I'm looking for that person...someone who understands that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Beauty comes from the inside...and this little Marci is beautiful inside...and outside! You can message me here or visit our website to inquire about Marci...she is ready to go home this week! www.RESQCATS.org

ABBY IS READY FOR ADOPTION! It's always a bit disappointing when a cat is returned to RESQCATS, but this time it was with good reason. Abby was adopted a coupl...e of weeks ago with her son, but the busy household and young toddler was just too much for this quiet, sensitive mom. So it was truly a selfless decision on the adopters' part to allow her to come back to RESQCATS! So I am once again looking for a home for Abby. And here is what she needs: a quieter home with someone who will give her some time to get to know her new surroundings. No children and no dog, but she doesn't seem to mind the resident cats at RESQCATS or those in enclosures next to her. Once she feels comfortable, the rewards she will bestow upon you are many as she is a real sweetheart. Abby loves to have her head rubbed and will bury it in my hand. Then soon after, the roll begins and she is belly up asking to be pet. She is a beautiful, petite tabby cat with eyes that remind me of the quote that goes something like...a cat's eyes are the windows to the soul. The rush for kittens this year has been awesome and we have placed many...but now it is time for another sweet mom to find her perfect person. She is tested, vaccinated, spayed, wormed, micro-chipped. You can contact me through a personal message or visit the website and send me an email for an application! www.RESQCATS.org How can you resist those eyes! See more

AN UPDATE ON STEVIE... I have concerning news and some very good news so read on! Stevie was back at the ER vet today for a scheduled follow up. Sadly, the infe...ction from where his eye was before it was removed is very serious There infection has caused severe swelling, so much in fact that the sutures that are supposed to hold the skin together so that it can heal had all fallen out leaving an open wound. The tissue around his eye is fragile and won't hold sutures and he has a skin infection due to the drainage from the area. Not good at all. So now, we will be treating an "open" wound and that is a much higher risk for infection and must be monitored closely; applying warm compresses every 4-6 hours, antibiotics, pain meds, and a culture to see what we are dealing with so that we can change his antibiotics if needed. We started with a very sick and fragile kitten, so that accounts for some of the challenges we face in caring for Stevie due to his very compromised immune system. But we're on it...don't worry! And there is hope...and maybe a miracle so keep reading! Now for the somewhat miraculous happening today! One of the registered vet techs at the hospital fell in love with Stevie. She has offered to take his care of him. He will go to work with her, be checked by the veterinarian regularly. That saves a lot of driving back and forth from Santa Maria to Santa Barbara with him. If he needs emergency care, he is five minutes away from the hospital...not an hour and a half! And finally...the vet tech and her family are adopting Stevie! RESQCATS will continue to take care of all of his expenses during this time and thanks to all of you, we can provide everything he needs. I have to say one more thing...it was very hard for Deanna to think that Stevie would be returning to her this evening, and then all this happened today. But we both always put the kittens and their well-being first and deal with our emotions later. We agree that to have this "angel" step forward and take this on is nothing short of a miracle. I will keep you posted on his progress, but for now please keep Stevie, his new adopter and my dear friend Deanna in your thoughts tonight. Once again, I will not post photos until our little guy is feeling better.

UPDATE ON STEVIE... For those of you who are asking about Stevie, the little orange kitten that you so generously donated towards and that had his eye removed l...ast week, my apology for being so quiet yesterday. The day was spent driving back and forth from Buellton where I met his foster mom, Deanna, and the emergency hospital here in Santa Barbara. Stevie's eye surgery has presented some complications, unlike any we have ever seen. He has been to the vet every day since his surgery and out of an abundance of caution and concern, we took him to the ER yesterday. While I won't post photos, just let me say that the tissue around his surgery site is very fragile and promoting healing has been a challenge, but we are on it! Don't worry about that and I will provide any and all that he needs. He has a follow up appointment tomorrow...more trips up and down Hwy 101 to pick him, take him the the vet and then deliver him back to Deanna. So keep sending good energy...and on a side note, thank you so very much to all those who donated towards his care...we just may need every penny of that...I'm grateful beyond words to you. Love and light, Jeffyne, Deanna and Stevie See more

A BIRTHDAY WISH COME TRUE! There's a lot of compassion and goodness out there...and so much of it came back to me in these last few days. I cannot begin to than...k all of you who helped me reach my $4000. I want you to know, that as of right now, you have given $4773...YES, I woke up this morning to find many more donations and that enabled us to surpass what I had hoped for. I promise you that I will continue to give it my all, and every single penny will go to the cats...no salaries or paid employees here! And I will keep you posted on Stevie and Marci as I will be looking for a home for them in a couple of weeks. I also promised you a dance if we reached that goal...I will follow through, but I need a couple of days to select my song and practice! xoxo See more

ResQcats 06.06.2020

My URGENT BIRTHDAY WISH! We are just so close to our $4000 goal and there is still time...until midnight tonight. And to update you on Marci and Stevie. Marci ...did great with her surgery yesterday. The excess tissue was trimmed inside her eye and she feels good today. She will be on eye drops to aid in her healing for the next two weeks and I expect all will go well. Little Stevie gave us quite a scare last night...he got home from surgery and his temperature was very low...it didn't even read on the thermometer. Deanna was able to warm him up and his temperature soon became normal. But she had difficulty waking him up after his surgery. Thankfully, the vet was quick to respond and gave her some things to do and all is good today. He did have his eye removed, but we are hoping that the healing in the other eye will go well and he will get to keep that eye. He does see light and dark and even chases a laser. Stevie will be in a collar for the next two weeks, handmade by Deanna! And he will be on eye drops to promote healing. As you can see, he is resting comfortably today and is on pain medication. So there is hope...and I just feel like we are on a good path here. If you would like to help us reach our goal...just a bit to go...go to our website and hit the donate button that will lead right to PayPal. www.RESQCATS.org See more
