ADELE - RECOVERING Our sweet girl is back with her amazing foster family and recovering well from her heart surgery. After all was said and done, they discovered a small hiccup... She has a slight stenosis (narrowing) in the heart valve they repaired. Hopefully it will be no biggie long term, but it means she has to be on medication for life and she will need annual EKGs and cardio checkups. Considering how sick Adele was and how grim her future looked, we look at this as a... pretty darn good win! From all of us at RFTH and Walk Me Home Rescue THANK YOU from the bottom of our Harts for helping make this surgery possible! Adele has the chance at a healthy life because of our village’s generosity xo Annie

YAY!!! Adele came thru surgery with flying colors! Her surgeon couldn’t be more pleased with how it went. When he called us, we could hear Adele in the background chatting away and bossing her care team around. Gotta love that fighting spirit! Tomorrow am they will take an X-ray of her heart and if everything goes according to plan, she can go home to her foster. For the next few weeks, she needs to low (good luck keeping this girl mellow! Lol!) and let her body heal. From th...ere, she would be considered CURED! No follow up care needed! A few weeks ago, Adele had a grim prognosis and today she has the chance at a long and healthy life. How amazing is that? Thank you to EVERYONE who has donated towards Adele’s care, including the Athena Fund for launching a donation match. And to the amazing medical team at VSEC for taking such great care of this angel. And of course to our partners in rescuing her - Walk Me Home Rescue Group. It truly does take a village and OUR VILLAGE ROCKS!! xo Annie

HOW’S CLEMENTINE??? Ok, ok, ok. I’ve made you wait long enough to find out how Miss Clementine is doing She’s doing GREAT!!! When the puppies were about 4 weeks old she started dating a family that lives near us. Starting with short walks, then play dates and finally, when she was completely over the puppies, she joined this new family full time! ... That was about 3 weeks ago and It’s been a nonstop love fest between Clemmie and her new brother (or is it boyfriend?) ever since. And we couldn’t be happier for her! But instead of me telling you how happy Clementine is, take a look at the below photos AND THEN go to our FB stories to see videos of her playing with her new brother. He actually sings to her! We truly could not have asked for a better home for our sweet mama dog. And selfishly, I’m thrilled she lives down the street from us, so I can see her as often as I want ;-) For those of you wondering if Clementine misses her babies, I can assure you she’s ok. They had gotten so big and were so tough on her, she really didn’t want to be around them anymore. I can’t say I blame her! These puppies are little monsters! Anyway, enjoy the pix and video of Clemmie enjoying her new life. And have a fantastic Friday! xo Annie

I’m THRILLED to share that Miss Adele’s heart issue is FIXABLE!!! YAY! Our partners at Walk Me Home Rescue took her to see the cardiologist yesterday and after reviewing her x-rays and EKG he concluded that she has a condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). Basically there is a vessel that connects the left and right side of the heart that is supposed to close at birth. But for Adele, it didn’t. This causes a massive strain on the heart and leads to congestive heart f...ailure. And if left untreated, 2 out of 3 dogs with this die by age two. Considering Adele is 4 years old, she’s pretty much a miracle And living on borrowed time. The good news is her cardiologist can fix it. Actually, it takes TWO cardiologists to perform the surgery, but the way they do it is much less invasive than going through the chest. Using a catheter, they go in through the femoral artery in the leg, zip up to heart and repair the vessel. Easy peasy. This procedure has a 90% success rate and if it works, it basically would cure her heart so that she could go on to live a full and healthy life! I’m not sure we could have asked for a more hopeful diagnosis. At Rescue From the Hart, we take the worst medical cases. Partly because we know that most rescues can’t, and partly because in the world we live in, there is so much we, as individuals, can’t do. We can’t stop wars, or end poverty, we can’t fix pollution or invent a cure for COVID. But we can do this. We can help dogs; day by day, dog by dog. Each a deserving symbol of how anyone can transcend their circumstances and reach for something greater. Whether it’s caring for six puppies in your guest room or donating towards a surgery to save a broken heart. We look each day for ways we can help, and makes miracles happen. With Adele, we and Walk Me Home Rescue did not expect anything extraordinary. We expected that her heath issues would likely not be fixable. And that the best we could do would be to care for her by managing her symptoms for as long as she had to live. Instead, we have the possibility of curing her. As you can imagine, heart surgery with two cardiologists comes with a hefty price tag. All in we are looking at over $6500. I think it’s worth it. I think Adele is worth it. But to make this surgery happen, we are going to need our ENTIRE village’s help. We are going to need everyone’s support and love. As Adele the singer serendipitously wrote: I could make you happy Make your dreams come true Nothing that I wouldn't do Go to the ends Of the Earth for you To make you feel my love Can you help us make Adele feel our love? Help us heal her broken heart? Please donate today. www.rescuefromthehart.org/donate xo Annie

MEET MARILYN - DONATION MATCH CONTINUED Greetings villagers! We are well on our way to meet our goal for the donation match! If you missed my earlier posts, The Athena Fund created a donation match in honor of RFTH's 6th anniversary. (I still can't believe it's been six years!) For all donations made from this past Saturday through this Thursday, your donations will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $2006. The "6" is in honor of our 6 years and we hope everyone will donate ...an amount with a "6" in it. Be it $6, $16, or $106, any amount is much appreciated! Your donations will go towards helping dogs like Marilyn, pictured here. Poor Marilyn recently was attacked by another dog and she required emergency surgery. The damage to her eye was so bad that they couldn't save it, but we think she looks pretty cute with her new wink ;-) Isn't she just darling?? Please donate towards the match today and help us help dogs like Marilyn, Adele, Clementine & Co, and so many others! Donate via credit card or paypal: www.rescuefromthehart.org/donate xo Annie

LITTLE ADELE’S GIANT HEART DONATIONS NEEDED Greetings villagers, I hope everyone is doing well and getting through this incredibly difficult time. We have a new pup and she needs all of us to help her. Last week I received a text from our good friends at Walk Me Home Rescue Group about an adorable poodle who needed res...Continue reading
