January 6th was an assault on our democracy and we have a duty to uncover the truth of that terrible day. The Capitol has stood for centuries as a symbol of hope and freedom known around the world, and it is our responsibility to ensure its resilience. I am proud to support this Select Committee to defend our democracy and ensure that the Congress can continue its essential work For The People.
Federal lands provide a wealth of benefits to our local communities, but they provide no funding for the critical services they receive in return. These payments provide a lifeline to local governments, many already cash-strapped by the COVID-19 pandemic, to continue providing vital services such as housing, schooling and public safety, to the people who live there.
It's time to invest in infrastructure. The INVEST Act will finally allow us to put away the Band-Aids and start addressing our nation's crumbling infrastructure. I'm voting on this bill today so we can rebuild and reimagine our infrastructure for tomorrow.
America was founded on ideals of equality and justice for all, and the halls of government should reflect those principles. I’m proud to support legislation to remove hate from the U.S. Capitol.
The devastating effects of climate change are getting worse every year, but we can work to mitigate the damage by investing in new and innovative ways to fight it! I am proud to join Congressman Kurt Schrader and co-sponsor the Clean Energy Future through Innovation Act of 2021. This bipartisan proposal will boost innovation of clean energy technologies and reduce emissions from the power sector while preserving affordability and reliability.
I had the pleasure of announcing this year's Congressional Art Competition winner - Justin Garza from Los Banos High School. Out of dozens of entries from high schoolers in my district, Justin's painting will grace the halls of Congress in Washington next year. Congratulations to Justin and all the talented student artists who submitted entries. I'm proud of all of you!
Veteran-owned businesses are an economic powerhouse that employ 5.8 million individuals. This Veterans Small Business Week we salute the many ways they make our communities and local economies better.
The Committee on Agriculture should reflect the changing landscape of agriculture in the United States. As a third-generation farmer, I have the firsthand experience, expertise and passion to connect with rural Americans and lead this committee through the difficult challenges ahead. Chairman Peterson is a friend and mentor and he leaves big shoes to fill. Not only must this Committee address an unstable agricultural economy and a broken international trade system, but we must also feed millions of vulnerable Americans in the throes of a worldwide pandemic. This is a challenge I am ready to accept.
It’s clear that more needs to be done to protect the people of Artsakh and bring lasting peace to the region. Demining efforts save lives and this conflict has put thousands at stake. The peace process must resume. I’m hopeful Administrator Barsa will act quickly to fund demining and unexploded ordnance removal in Nagorno Karabakh to prevent avoidable casualties during and after the conflict.
Madera County residents, please take note of the COVID-19 and mobile flu clinics taking place in November. Tests and vaccine shots are FREE, but some dates requite an appointment. Please do your part to help open Madera County safely wear a mask when out in public and get tested if you think you’ve been exposed to or have COVID-19.
Of ALL veteran-owned businesses: 10.7% are Black-owned 7% are Hispanic-owned 2.1% are Asian-owned ... 1.6% are Native American-owned During Veterans Small Business Week, I'm working to make sure these businesses can access the programs & support they need to grow.
I just got off the phone with Richard and commended him for his persistence in making sure his ballot was cast and his voice was heard. As a Veteran, he served our country valiantly to secure everyone's right to do just that. If he can VOTE during a medical crisis - so can you! Polls close at 8:00 p.m. - if you're in line before that time, you will be allowed VOTE!
American famers and food producers are hurting like never before and we must take steps to protect access to key markets. By requiring protections for common food and wine terms in any trade negotiations, we can ensure they continue to have reliable and fair access to overseas markets, which are critical to their economic health.

This bill is the perfect example of working across the aisle for the betterment of our communities. Nutria plague our waterways and cause damage to farms and water infrastructure an urgent situation that needs attention. This bill secures funding to help rid our waterways of this pest. Through bipartisan teamwork, we now have the means to solve this problem.
