#REPCLUB 90047 There's an Alice in Wonderland quote that's been with me my whole life: "Begin at the beginning, then when you come to the end: stop." Reparations Club began on Hobart Blvd in #SouthCentral LA, where my mother was raised in the '60s, me in '90s, and my nephews now. It's the epicenter of our lives. A true introvert in the hood, I stayed my ass inside most days, and was usually in long before the streetlights came on. But even that didn't shelter me from th...e realities of living while Black. I was on Hobart when we'd had enough in '92, when the earth shook in '94, and the day we lost Pac in '96. I took my first steps on Hobart, dialed-up AOL for the first time, tried endlessly to decipher grown folks business, and learned the depth of community and familyplay cousin or bloodat birthdays, block parties, card nights, and far too many repasts. Now, I'm a little older, a little further west off the 10, #hardlyhomebutalwaysreppin. My mom passed a year ago, and Rreparations Club was born about 6 months after. We're just trying to keep the spirit alive. Thank you to everyone that's supported us so far. We love y'all. A fitting quote from mom's favorite rapper, Tupac: "South Central LA can't get no stranger." She often joked that Pac was my real dad and this rose definitely didn't grow too far from the concrete. IT WAS ALL A DREAM I always dreamed of being featured by i-D Magazine. I never dreamed it would be in *front* of the camera, alongside my bff/business partner at LOOM, Erica Chidi Cohen (and so many other inspirational womxn), shot by an all Womxn + POC-led team, wearing Black-owned fashion (shout out NO SESSO!), discussing my own Black-owned endeavors (Reparations Club is coming y'all!) and feeling confident about it all. Every single moment of this taught me to dream bigger and lean on your community for support. Thank you Bethany Vargas & Keyla Marquez for helping me find my light (literally). Y'all better read every word! xo Jazzihttps://i-d.vice.com//12-women-los-angeles-tell-us-how-the
