We started 2021 with a visit from Darrell our friendly goat. Not usually allowed in the house... but hey we need to get off on the right foot this year. Woke up feeling overwhelmed.... (OOPS despite accidentally posting this earlier... it’s the truth). . And it’s also true that I have seasonal low mood... maybe you could call it seasonal affective disorder... or maybe I just miss the long days, the blooms in my yard and warm weather. Either way ... it happens every year.... . I was kind of walking aimlessly through my house in a fog. . Do I fold the mountain of laundry? Do I work out? Do I check the Christmas to do list? Do I respond to email? Do I make breakfast? Do I work on a blog post or the gut health course coming up? Do I vacuum the dog hair out of my house? And on and on... . And then the sun moved across the sky and straight through this window. It warmed my back as I was pouring coffee. I turned around closed my eyes and literally let it fill me up. . In this moment I remembered .... I know how to get out of this. . First, I let the sun hit me. . Then I walked through my house tapping. I used EFT to come back to my body again. Tapping is amazing. . Next, I made a huge protein rich breakfast. . The overwhelm was gone but the low mood was still there. . My sister @shinewithstephaniemarie and I call it feeling swampy. Dr. Intal says in Chinese medicine that it is damp heat. . Whatever it is ... it feels crappy. And bingeing an old episode of survivor was all I could muster. However, guilt and overwhelm was gone. . After giving into the couch... I decided I needed to do what ALWAYS works for me... outdoor exercise!! I declared to my family... I don’t care what you guys are doing ... but I am hiking up the hill. . And with out a special plan, with out a perfect ritual or rhythm... I left overwhelm, low mood and the swamp behind. . The mountain of laundry is still there. The dog hair is no joke. I’m sorry if you emailed me today. And Christmas is coming whether I’m ready or not.

Teaching the future healers... To understand plant medicine.... Through the stories of the plants. And experiencing the love that infused the medicine. This time we made a topical lung vapor to help with smoke and respiratory illness. Simply rubbed on the throat and chest... it is a divine uplifting experience. Like a less aggressive Vic’s. My favorite part... after teaching the kids the function of the herbs both physically and intuitively... they create all kinds of names for their medicine:) Love these kids from #campshine... @shinewithstephaniemarie ... this camp is amazing :)

Misty morning. Oh the magic of Mother Earth...... Did you know the body relies heavily on light and dark signals to regulate our cells, hormones and entire systems. The best way to start the day is an am walk. The blue greens of morning set the circadian rhythm for the rest of your body. Do you have hormonal issues or trouble sleeping? Start your day with early morning sun and end with early evening glow. Avoid exposure of artificial blue light as the first or last thing you see in your day. This was today’s morning walk. The mist was surreal. Tomorrow will bring a new sky, a different set of clouds and a completely different feel. It’s not boring. Still thankful for clear days.

Don’t take her for granted. Yesterday in the clinic so many of my patients said the same thing.... Today, I feel so much better. The clear skies and clean air has made such a difference. We are not guaranteed anything. Not even the blue sky. Go outside today... find joy under the blue. Breathe it in. If you are fortunate enough to live in a place with blue sky and clean air.... do not skip the outdoors. In the past month of smoke I have been blessed with the gift of a new perspective. The blue sky is enough. Standing under it is enough. If you are somewhere under smoke or turmoil... just hold the vision of a blue sky. Look at this picture and just soak it in. It will return.
