Thanks for all you have done throughout this sacred election season to nurture the democratic values that undergird our nation and the faith that guides our liv...es. Your efforts give us strength and your persistence gives us hope. We are heartened by thousands of women religious and their friends all over the country and the world who are united in prayer for a peaceful and safe election. Please join us in the final prayer of our eight-week journey. Our prayer for election day, On the Pulse of the Morning, features the poetry of Maya Angelou and the music of Ennio Morricone. https://lcwr.org//res/attachments/11.03.20_electionday.pdf

World Tsunami Awareness Day What are tsunamis? The word "tsunami" comprises the Japanese words "tsu" (meaning harbour) and "nami" (meaning wave). A tsunami is a series of enormous waves created by an underwater disturbance usually associated with earthquakes occurring below or near the ocean.... Volcanic eruptions, submarine landslides, and coastal rock falls can also generate a tsunami, as can a large asteroid impacting the ocean. They originate from a vertical movement of the sea floor with the consequent displacement of water mass. Tsunami waves often look like walls of water and can attack the shoreline and be dangerous for hours, with waves coming every 5 to 60 minutes. The first wave may not be the largest, and often it is the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even later waves that are the biggest. After one wave inundates, or floods inland, it recedes seaward often as far as a person can see, so the seafloor is exposed. The next wave then rushes ashore within minutes and carries with it many floating debris that were destroyed by previous waves. _______ PHOTO:Raeford Dwyer Photography

We celebrate with our Sisters in México Día de los Muertos! Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. This holiday is a three-day celebration of life and death, that brings together the living with family and friends who have passed on. The celebration includes the creation of altars to remember the dead, traditional dishes for the Day of the Dead, candy, music, art and folklore. People go to cemeteries to be with the souls of the departed and build private altars containing the favorite foods and beverages, as well as photos and memorabilia, of the departed.

United Nations Day! 75 years working for peace UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. There is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations. Today, the urgency for all countries to c...ome together, to fulfil the promise of the nations united, has rarely been greater. 24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday. ______ Photo: View of the General Assembly Hall. UN/Cia Pak
